I decided to leave the two alone and when she turned to find me missing, I smirked and waved. Her gaze landed on me and she shook her head. I gave her two thumbs up and went to find Valerie.
I don't know what all went down, I don't know how long I was gone, but I remember hearing a gun go off. I looked around for Morgan, but when I didn't see her, I didn't think too much of it. I thought she'd just wandered off somewhere, cause I didn't see Hayden anywhere either. But when I heard someone scream, "Oh my God!" I ran over, ignoring the guy I was talking to.
What I saw would forever haunt my mind. There lay my best friend on the ground in her own blood, a bullet hole straight through her stomach. She was still alive, but barely. I looked to the left of her and seen Hayden with a bullet in his forehead. I grimaced and turned away, calling out for Valerie to help.
We towed Morgan to the car, me getting in the backseat with her. "K-Katelin?" She spoke quietly, using a good bit of her energy, which was already drained anyway.
"Yeah, I'm here," I said, my lip trembling. "Please, Morgan, you gotta hang in there, ok? We can fix this," I tried to reason with her. She looked up at me, her brown eyes dull and glassy.
"It was a demon," she mumbled, struggling against her eyelids, "Who killed Hayden. He killed my boyfriend. Who killed me. Katelin, you have to stop it." She was deathly serious and I felt my stomach sink.
I nodded anyway, making this promise in hopes that she would live. "Of course," I told her, getting a small smile in return. "Hey, I just wanna say thank you for putting up with me. I never deserved your friendship, but you took me in and I don't know what I would've done without you," she said, tears starting to roll down her face.
"No, don't talk like that, ok, you'll be ok," I repeated that all the way to the hospital, praying that she'd be ok. "And Kate?" She said, using my nickname. "Yeah Morgan?"
"Thanks for being the sister that I never had," she whispered as they rolled her away.
Valerie, the other friend, and I settled in our chairs for a long night. Around midnight, a doctor came over to us with a grim expression on his face. "Look ladies, I know this is gonna be tough but... your friend... she didn't make it," he said and left after giving us a bit to process that.
I looked at Valerie and whispered, "She's dead." Valerie's eyes filled with tears, as did mine, and we couldn't drive for about an hour due to the fact that we were in so much pain.
I never thought I'd have to attend my best friend's funeral. At least not so soon, anyway. She was only 19, she still had a lot more time to live. And to make things worse, Hayden was he crush from so long ago and he'd finally asked her out. On June 2, 2022, my best friend and her boyfriend lost their lives. To a demon, who I now have to kill.
*end*
"So yeah. Neither one of us was ok after the funeral," I told Dean, referring to Valerie. "I tried to go, so many times, but I just...couldn't. Like, something was stopping me. I swear on everything that it was her, but I don't know."
Dean was crying by this point, obviously not expecting that. He pulled me into a bear hug, saying, "I'm sure I would've loved her." I nodded, saying, "And you know what made it even worse?"
He shook his head, waiting for an answer. "She had finally gotten what she wanted, someone to love her. And she lost it," I answered, burying my face in his chest. "That's awful... did she die on her birthday?" He asked and I nodded again. "God, that's even worse," he muttered and I didn't do anything.
