Chapter 1 A Demon's Curse

My name is Gabriella, and I'm a freshman at Hollers High school. I am an average student with just a few friends.. I have a best friend named Gwen. I also have a younger brother and our mom. Our dad disappeared without a trace. I soon got used to not having him around. Not because I didn't like him, but because he had so many business trips.

One day my friends and I were playing in the woods by ourselves, and we usually crossed a small stream, by walking on a tree branch that had fallen off a tree during a storm. There was a difference with this day; there was a thunderstorm when we crossed. My friends crossed, but as I got on the branch, it snapped in half and I fell into the stream. The water took me under, I could hear the screams of my friends as they called my name, but those screams turned silent and I was swept into a current and I was never to be seen again.

I woke up in a dark room, somewhere in a house I assumed; I could hear a small faint voice in the distance. I followed the voice and found myself in rags, when I found the source of the voice, it was by a girl sitting in a chair crying, she was only a few steps in front of me. I then took a few steps closer and asked "Are you ok?" I stood by her side and looked at her face, she was smiling. Soon her crying turned to laughter, I stepped back she started looked up at me . By then I was scared out of my mind. I then met my face to- As I looked closer she didn't seem to have a face, and her skin was a simple gray. She had the appearance of a doll. She or it then got out of her chair and started moving closer to me, and the thing that haunted me the most was that she wasn't walking she was floating in the air, and I then started to run, as far as I could.

The further I ran the louder her laughs were, they were echoing off the wall and so was her shadow, tears started to stream down my face from being so scared but then I reached a dead end and there was no where to run . Then out of nowhere chains came right out of the ground wrapping around around my ankles. Then the girl appeared once again then she asked a question, "Do you not want to play?" I then yelled "I don't want to play your games, so just leave me alone!" Then drops of blood glided down her face, starting from where her eyes would have been.

Then her mouth appeared on her face, she was smiling, she had sharp fangs that were covered with blood. She then came closer to me I than screamed for help, but no one came, she drew a knife from the back of her head, and came closer to me, then I started begging for mercy, and before I knew it I was stabbed right in the heart. The last words I heard from her was "You belong to me know." Then she started laughing, her smile grew larger and her laugh was ringing in my head.

I woke up in the forest that my friends and I were playing in. It was morning and I could see well. I then heard my name being called by many people some voiced I recognized, some I didn't. I then thought about yesterday and what happened in that mysterious place. "I think it was a dream." I thought to myself, I then took a deep breath and followed the sound of the many voices. As I got closer to the voices, something stuck my mind. It was the laugh of the girl that killed me or hurt me. I then thought again to myself. "If that dream I had was reality, then wouldn't I be dead?" Then I heard a response. "That wasn't a dream, I just patched you up so you look fine, but in reality you are a simple soul just rotting away." I shook my head confused, but I kept moving until I saw my friends, family, and police officers.

"What happened?" My mother asked, "I- I'm not sure" I said in confusion and fear. My and left the woods. The thing was, I never knew what was coming next in my life. Mother gave me a hug and said that I was going to be fine. She also said that I am never to go into this forest again. I nodded and agreement, then we traveled back home so I could rest. The next few days, I've felt like I haven't gotten much sleep, even though I have been sleeping problems, maybe it's just because of the incident, I am getting some kind of dream, which keeps me from sleeping, or I might wake up a lot and I don't remember. I think it's something around that, But when I find out I hope I can stop it. 

The next few days at school have also been strange. The students at our school stopped showing up, I thought that there was a virus going around or something, but turns out there wasn't a single sick student, or teacher in our school. As weeks passed, I noticed that over half of the students have gone missing! I tried to look into it, but all I found wast the fact that they were gone. So I kept doing research, but I couldn't find anything. I spent hours and hours awake, still trying to find an answer, but all I found were the same answers. Then I thought that maybe someone was trying to keep a secret, and make sure that nobody knew what happened to the students.

On the daily newspaper it has been saying that, that they have found some discovery about the missing students, though none had good news to it. They said that some have been found, others have not, some they found alive some they found dead, The thing about this, is that the ones that have been found alive, have been frozen in fear saying something like, "Her smile will be the death of us," or "Her knife will stab you when you least expect it to happen." The ones that have been found dead have been either found with a knife through their head or their back. So they really aren't that lucky.

I also noticed that all the disappearing students have been found dead or alive in the woods. I then realized that the girl with the creepy smile was back for revenge. I walked down the sidewalk in front of my house. My mother said "Where are you going?" I responded "To my school." She nodded and said "Whatever you do don't go into the woods. Do you understand?" I nodded and started walking to my school once more.

The reason I wanted to go, was because my friends and I planned to meet at the school. We were going to talk about the disappearing student, but my friends didn't show up yet. I decided to wait, and wait, and wait. By the time I stopped waiting, the sun was setting. My mother called and said that I needed to get home immediately. I rushed home to see what my mother wanted. She said that it was about my friends. They have gone missing too. All three of my friends made it back, but sadly, no one survived, one through the head and two through the back. I was very shocked that my friends were dumb enough to go into the woods, but also my only friends were gone.

Now that their gone, I won't feel as happy at school. Then before I knew it I was the only student at school that had no one to talk to. Even though there weren't that many students left. I tried to stay positive that everything would be alright.  I tried believing that it was all just a nightmare that I have been having, but I pinched myself too many times to believe that. I also thought that it was just a prank from the townspeople, but why or what would cause me to be the victim. I had many ideas afterward, but every explanation had a reason to be false. I then gave up and admitted that I have nothing to prove, and that I have to face reality.
