I've always been seen as that girl with the "perfect life"... but the truth is that I'm not. I have gone through some really dark things, but Giselle was the light to chase away those dark times. Leo fought off the monsters that attempted to take over me. They are my best friends, and nothing could change that.

3rd period started at 11:30 and it was 11:37. I prepare myself for the wrath of Mrs. Johnson as I quickly walk into the room, attempting to not be noticed. "Ms. Williams? Do you care to share with the class why you are nearly ten minutes late to class?" Mrs. Johnson scolds me.

"My locker got jammed when I needed my science book. I'm so sorry miss, it won't happen again." That was just a stupid excuse. I actually was talking to Leo, my bestfriend and lost track of time.

"If that is the case, then where is your science book Ms. Williams, hmm?" I mentally face palm myself as I realize I forgot my science book in my "jammed" locker.

"I couldn't get my science book out of my locker. Could I just borrow someone else's  book instead for notes?" Mrs. Johnson nods her head in an angry manner, continuing to scowl at me, I swear she's over a hundred years old. As I turn back around, everybody's eyes are glued onto me. I put my head down as a light blush dusts my face. There are no seats besides this one shy, yet very tall girl around my age with golden brown hair, blue green eyes, and a LOT of freckles. I ask her already slightly pissed off, "Is anyone sitting here?" Her eyes go wide and she stutters out something that sounds like a no. I begrudgingly throw myself in my seat and out of the corner of my eye see the girl flinch at my sudden movement. The girl seemed flustered and startled. Right now that isn't my problem, so I shrug it off.

"Mazie, what is one sign a chemical reaction has occurred?" Mrs. Johnson asks, cocking an eyebrow.

"A change in color." I say, attempting to keep my attitude out of it, yet failing to do so. Mrs. Johnson nods and starts to say something except I just start day dreaming. Then a soft tap on my shoulder rips me out of my thoughts and I whip my head around to look for the person who pulled me out of my day dreams. It's the girl who I am sitting next to.

"Hi Mazie, I'm Giselle. Sorry we couldn't have met at a different time." Giselle whisper/yells

"It's fine, the old dinosaur hasn't completely ruined my day." I reply sarcastically.

"Ok class, you and a partner are going to be doing labs on chemical reactions and yes, you get to choose your partner." Mrs. Johnson says with a tinge of regret.

I hear a hushed 'yes'  since we got to choose our own partners. I look around longingly for someone that I knew, yet to my despise there was no one. Then, I look at Giselle and ask her casually, "Do you want to be partners?" Giselle's eye lit up and she nodded her head vigorously. That is where our journey began.

I flinch as Leo throws the crust of his "sandwich" at me. It hits me right in the center of my face and I scowl at him. "You can't even consider that a sandwich Leo! It's just two slices of bread with ketchup and a slice of cheese in the middle! It's not even humane to your body!" I yell at him.

"My mom didn't go to the grocery store this week, I had nothing! Besides, you can't hate it until you've tried it." Leo winks at me, my scowl growing deeper. I can hear Giselle snorting next to me and attempting to not burst out into a fit of laughter. I just ignore the idiot in front of me and take a bite of my fries. As I'm deep in thought, a grungy hand harshly reaches over to me and gives me a noogie. I look up in shock and I see Leo leaning back in his seat grinning slyly.

"What the hell Leo! I'm going to rip that cheesy grin right off of your face and shove it up your ass!" I angrily scold him, "it took me an hour to get these braids perfect. Uggghhhh!" I can hear Giselle losing it next to me and I can't help but laugh with her. Then Leo joins in, except he was drinking chocolate milk and it came shooting out of his nose.

"Owwwww, it burns! I think I just burned my nose hairs off!" Leo laughs hysterically." By that point we were all gasping for air, attempting to not suffocate, and that's when I realized that these two were going to be my best friends.

Time jump to sophomore year

I arrive with El and Leo to Newberry Books & Café, our favorite meet up place. We come to this café every Saturday around 10:30. Today I am wearing a coldshouldered black blouse and white wash jeans with some combat boots to top it off. El is wearing an olive green light long sleeved blouse with dark wash ripped jeans, and white high top converse. Leo is sporting his usual of a blue polo with khakis and red converse.

We waltz into the café with our usual greeting from Kat. El and I order two chai teas. One iced for me and one hot for El. Leo orders his usual, an iced Vanilla Latte with extra syrup. We go to our usual spot in the café, a secluded corner lined with books on shelves. It's a cozy corner, and no one bothers us in it.

"In 'The Cuckoos Calling' Cormoran just broke up with his girlfriend and is devastated." El states. We are reading a book together and it is actually quite boring, but it's ok. cause we are almost finished with it.

"Hey, did you see what happened to Kat? Someone pranked her and vandalized her car! She was devastated. I kinda feel bad for her, ya know?" Leo says randomly. El looks over at him confused as to why he was so random sometimes.

"Yeah, she was pretty pissed! If she ever finds out who did that, they are in for some pretty bad karma." I say, kind of wishing that she would find out... Drama! I look around at the aesthetically pleasing coffee shop. It was homey and welcoming. Barely anyone ever came here since it's such a small business. The books lined on the top shelf are in color order. It smelled like baked goods and coffee. The flooring is a light brown wood, with random cracks and dents in it. I study the rustic wood surrounding me with the white walls. I close my eyes taking in my surroundings and go off into deep thought as El and Leo argue about plants and if they can hear or not. My lips twitch up into a smile because I realize just how weird my life is with these two in it.
