"Did you forget anything?" said my mom for around the 99th time today.

"Oh my gosh mom just go. I'll be fine."

"Do you have your phone charger? How 'bout all your textbooks? Do you have enough pencils? Oh no did I forget to give you those new pairs of und....."

"MOM IM FINE. JUST GO"

"Okay, okay i'm sorry. I'll go" said my mom in a joking voice. "I'll miss you though"

"It's not gonna be THAT long," I chuckled. "but I'll miss you too."

"I can't believe I'm missing my only daughter's first day of senior year." said my mom as she wiped a fake tear on her cheek. "My little baby's growing up....I feel so old" She put both her hands on her chest.

"If you miss your flight, you're gonna have to pay for it, ya know?" A smirk appeared on my face.

A look of realization crossed her face. She looked up at me in pure horror. "It-t-ts alread-dy 10:30"

Oh crap.

We both rush towards our black BMW 7 series. She stuffs her luggage in the trunk and I almost speed to the next traffic light. As we arrive at the airport, I start to realize that my mom isn't going to be there for my first day. I mean, I knew that already but it just hit me. She's been there for my first day of school ever since dad left, so since the 1st grade.

You're probably thinking- Why would she care if her parents were there or not? I wish that happened to me. Saves me from the embarrassment... - Right? No.

My mom is basically my best friend. I really don't know what I would do without her. See, I'm not the most popular person at school. Actually, I might be the least popular. And by this I don't mean people don't like me and that they bully me. They literally don't know who I am.

"HELLO? ANYONE HOME??" says my mom sarcastically, knocking on my head.

"Oh, yeah. Sorry."

I parked in the airport parking lot. I looked at my mom as she struggled to take her luggage out of the trunk. I helped her and saw the childish grin that I would miss A LOT. Tears started to fill my eyes. Cue dramatic breakdown.

"Oh, honey. It's ok. Shhhh" She hugged me tightly and I hugged her back as I started to sob into her woven sweater.

"I'm going to miss you so much." I said as I looked up at her. She looked at me with sad eyes and I realized that I had to be strong. For her.

I wiped my tears away and pulled away from the hug.

"If I don't get you into that airport soon," I pointed to the large building on our side, "we will have $-90 in our bank accounts." She smiled.

Trying to get away from the subject, I pull her suitcase toward the building. When we enter the building, the smell of coffee hits.

Ah. Coffee. Must have.

Must be strong. Must resist coffee obsession.

"You can get coffee after I leave, ok?" She smiled. I swear she could read my mind sometimes. I say its a maternal thing.

"Alright." I realized that we were standing right in front of where the check-in starts.

Oh gosh. I can feel the tears coming in again. No. Be strong. THINK OF COFFEE.

We turned to face each other at the same time.

"Bye mom. I love you." This isn't the first trip she's gone on, but I really need her to be here for senior year. I'll get through it somehow.

"I love you more. Bye Stella." She kissed me on the forehead, took her luggage, and walked into the security line.

"DON'T FORGET TO CALL!" I yelled as everyone at the airport turned to face me.

Crap. Too much attention.

Everyone turned away and my mother disappeared.

I finally got my coffee.

Ah. How does this taste so good?

As I sip on my coffee, I feel a tap on my shoulder.

I turn around to see a familiar face. My eyes widen. No, this can't be happening. I moved away to get away from all of this. It's...Mark Smith.
