Act of kindness for the day
Alervira was a boring village, nothing ever happened, especially in the warm, tiring and long Italian summers. School was over for 2 months, 2 whole months. It was great at first but the novelity wears of quick. I remember, me and my best friend Roberto spent the whole time last year, chasing each other down the meadows, hiding In the rich forests, rolling down hills and stargazing under the tree at the top of the mountain. It was amazing, the two of us. But it was always just me and him, we grew up as the only kids in the deprived village, each other was all we needed in the world. And as cliche as it sounds, I love the him. Only if he felt the same.
I'm more of a stay at home, reading and listening to music, admiring the stars type of person, whereas he was always ready for an adventure. He taught me there was more in life than outside a page. "pieces of paper, stuck together to tell a story" as he called it. He hated reading. "Why sit inside and read about it, when you can experience it first hand?", without him I wouldn't be the guy I am now.
Every morning we used to meet at the same place, the infamous yet gorgeous market square, buzzing with villagers. I think there is 47 of us, like I said before it gets boring. I love the stunning architecture of the village, stained stone walls, dark cobbled streets, tiled roofs and my favourite, the elaborate and elegantly scuptered fountain In the middle. The smooth and calm waters reflecting the sun. It looked beautiful and never failed to disappoint, even during storms.
When we met, I instantly brightened, without a doubt, his company was always a getaway form my dark, scary life at home. He knew all about it, and didn't tell a soul. I made him promise a few years back and he still hasn't broken it. My eyes feel alive once I see him, when he speaks my heart drops but quickly warms. I felt nervous around him, but a good nervous. Nervous excited.
The first thing he would do was to give me a compliment, not like I deserved one but I still got one, they were always sweet and kind and caring like, "you're the most amaximg person I know", "yours to good for this little village", "hello handsome" I hear it all. Every single day, it acting as some sort of cycle, I answered him back wit, "why?"
A genuine smile crossed his face and he would place his left Palm against my white pale cheek, tenderly and softly run him thumb through it and say "consider it my act of kindness for the day" I laughed as he forced his hands back, knocking himself away, bouncimg a little to keep his balance and not fall into the fountain. On Robertos hands journey back into his pocket, my green dyed fringe would always get flicked, landing on top of my head. And apparently looking "adorable"
It's weird that I'm reviewing all if this before I fl asleep, but it helps me, Robertos my last thought before I sleep and he's my first thought when I awake. The windowsill in my window I'd the best thinking spot, where i can see all of the dark, misty, dead "ghost town". Just before I clambered into my large bed, I checked the time. 01:30. I groaned loudly as I turned over and shut my eyes.
