The date was...who gives a shit. The season however, was very important. It was summer, ah yes, none other then hot and steamy summer. The west coast at this time of year had people drowning in sweat, covered in lust, or laced in drugs. At least, that was the lucky few, the unlucky few however, were dealing with drug overdose, breakups, marriages, one night stands, and worse of all, Summer Love.
A boy laying in sand on a beach, isolated from civilization His only company being the swift but harsh "woosh", sound the ocean made as it crashed against the shore. He was hidden from his fellow humans, no one was near this part of the beach at this time of night. This boy's thoughts were flooded with why and how questions of every kind. The only one that he ever thought about more then once was, why am I alive? He understood how incredibly cliché that sounded, but he couldn't help it.
His reminder was on his wrist, the slit's would never heal, he thought to himself. The boy thought that the slits weren't a good enough reason to prove he had to fight. "Fight", the ocean wailed with it's relentless smash against the shore.
The boy began to sweat from the heat of the night's air. He finally opened his eyes and sat up to look at the shore line. His brown hair and all of his back and legs were covered in sand. His shirt was filled with it, the grainy material sticking to the skin on his back from the inside of his shirt. As he sat up he also noticed how purple the sky was, or was it violet? However, no matter how beautiful the scene everything in his brain remained the same. The constant "why's" and "how's".
"Hey", said the voice out of the dark.
The boy immediately snapped out of his trance and turned his head, frantically looking in the direction from which the voice came.
"Ohohoho, holy shit! I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to scare you", the voice pronounced.
The voice came closure and soon became a figure. The figure was a girl with long brown hair and sharp yellow eyes, she also had pale skin. The boy in the sand didn't notice the girls eyes because they were in the dark.
"Um, are you okay and how long have you been here? I can barely see you and you look a wreck.", she said as she moved down to the right of him.
The girl's legs were now covered in sand as well. She sat next to the boy concerned for him and she didn't know why. She turned her head towards him waiting for some kind of response or sign. She had felt the urge to grab his hand in order to get him to snap out of it, but she thought better of it.
The boy in the sand looked up into the girl's eyes, his confused eyes meeting her concerned ones. Wow she is really pretty the boy thought. With just the slightest glimpse at her, his mind transferred his mind from "why" and "how" questions. The boy was now thinking of a "human sounding response" for the girl's questions.
"Um I don't know, and I don't know, sorry", he practically whispered. Damn it, the boy thought as he noticed how stupid that sounded.
However, to his surprise he found that the girl was giggling at his fumble. At this point the boy didn't know what to expect. This girl was just so different from everyone he knew. Then again, he never knew a lot of people. But still, for once in his life he wasn't being called an idiot or a fuck up, or a failed abortion. That's the way things were, growing up any mistake got him beat by his step father. His real dad was supposedly a good guy, but the boy never met him. No-one ever told him what happened. Anyway's over the years the boy was beat by his "step ass".
"Hey are you okay?", the girl asked as she shook the boy by his shoulder.
"Huh?", he murmured as he began to gather himself and his situation.
"Oh you just spaced out again.", she said as she relaxed her face.
"Hm?... oh yeah... sorry.", the boy said with a dull tone, almost criticizing him self.
He braced himself, he expected to be scolded. As unrealistic as he realized it was, he still wasn't sure, after all it was just the norm. However, the girl surprised him yet again.
She did this when she said, "Don't be sorry silly, there is obviously something on your mind. I don't think you can help that can you? I trail off all the time anyway's so you're fine, you're all good."
The boy's heart hit the gas pedal. It was only a matter of time before it crashed. This girl seemed so different. To be fair I've never had a real friend or person that cared before, including my own parent's. This can't be real. Maybe some people were like this, he thought to himself.
The date was June 31st, ten day's after summer 2017 started, and his birthday.
