It was a cold dark night. I walked out in the stormy rain and thought of my old life where I could play in my little habitat. I used to live in a pet store with my brother Jake but that was long ago. We ran around our home for hours until we were so tired that all we could do was sleep. But one day I woke up and Jake was gone. I thought he was gone because he needed a bath. For hours I waited but he didn't come back.

The next day there was still no sign of him. I waited years and years for him to come back, but he didn't. Years later the store stopped getting money. They owners left me behind and I was abandoned. As a full grown cat, I wandered the city until there were no more giant skyscrapers that reached up into the heavens. I had thought that my brother was up there but my heart knew he was still on this planet. But let's get back to the present. Here I am, cold, lonely, and hungry. Everyday survival in this city gets harder. From dogs to giant trucks almost crushing me I knew that I would have to find a place. Somewhere safe. Somewhere where I could find someone, someone that I could care about. I wish I could explain more but my memory is fuzzier than a hairball. Sometimes I remember but then in less than a second, it's gone. I don't know how many years I'll have to search since I'm getting old. When the time comes, I will accept it. I know that I am dying and I can't stop it.

As I walked down the cold cobblestone street I realized I had entered a new city. Everything was dark and suspicious but I kept walking. I realized that the further I walked the more people I ran into. Most of them coming up to me and asking strange questions. The town I walked into was strange compared to what I have previously walked into. Every house I passed there was a person peeking out of their door and laying food out that had attracted me. It seemed that I had found a place that loved me or cared about me in some way. In my previous traveling locations I was either kicked around or yelled at, but here things were different. People smiled at me which put a warm feeling in my heart. But then I walked past an old woman that held a stick which made her look like a wicked queen. I had thought she was the ruler of this town because she was the most ancient and hopefully wise. I bowed down, but she kicked me aside. Then she yelled in a voice so terrifying that I had jumped to my feet.

" Why you darn cat, go back to the alleys before I kick you again!"

Still terrified I ran as fast as my tired legs could carry me. As I ran into the alleyway I realized that as I ran in it got darker, more secretive. Then at the last moment for which my legs could carry me, I fell to the ground. I then heard a forceful bark come from the corner.

I looked from side to side only to figure out that I was surrounded by dingos. My feet tired from running, I was trapped in a corner. But in the corner of my eye, I saw another old woman yelling in strange ways like,

"Get away from him you nasty mutts!" and "I'll call the pound on you!"

Before the dingos could even touch me they ran away like a bunch of puppies. Out of my curiosity, I walked toward the old woman and purred. Then to my surprise, she picked me up! I couldn't believe such kindness. Maybe this was the place that I needed. Maybe this was the place where I found someone that I could care for. After about fifteen minutes of walking, we reached her home. She laid me on her couch as she reached into her dusty old closet. As soon as she opened it the room filled with dust, surrounding everything. She then pulled out a fluffy bed, that said my name on it, it said Comet. I thought that it was deja vu but I still couldn't believe it. I looked in the old woman's eyes and saw the glimmering shine. I realized it was an owner from the pet store that had grown old. Her name was Lisa. She fed me, bathed me, and even cuddled with me. The bed was too small for me now but I still remember how it felt, so I jumped right onto it and felt at home. There was just one thing missing. There was a hole in my heart. I knew I would have to leave. To find my brother.
