With a jolt, a brunette teenager fell out of her bed. She groaned, brushing some of her hair behind her ears. Just as she was about to climb back into bed, a small girl tugged at her shirt. The girl was only about 4'10, and had her blonde hair tied into to braids. She wore pink pajamas which were far too big- and long. She simply rolled up her pants and sleeves to fix the issue.. "L-Lilac-" the girl began. "What is it Winter? Everyone else is asleep."

"I-I know..B-but-" The small girl known as Winter was trying to put her sentence together. She is probably one of the cutest kids in the entire orphanage. But she was sort of odd. She never slept unless she passed out- which is the reason why she claims she can sometimes hear her doll talking to her. She always stuttered, and was even afraid of her own shadow. But, she had Nani to protect her. Nani was the same age as Winter (The two were 11 years old) But was definitely the stronger of the two. Nani has dark hair and insists she knows more about majority of the orphanage. She is definitely one of the most rebellious kids Miss Serena had to deal with. Nani had been 'disciplined' countless times, but of course it changed nothing. Winter and Nani continue to be partners in crime.

"Calm down Winter. It's only me." Lilac flashed one of her warm smiles- the smiles she always offers to those younger than her. Lilac was the brunette 14 year old who felt like it was her responsibility to be the mom majority of the kids never had. "C-come with me..I-I see s-stars!" Winter practically dragged her friend alongside her. She had already tried to wake Nani, which didn't work. One thing that put the orphans in a happy state was seeing those small gems in the sky. They loved making out the various constellations and dreaming of the day they will always be able to see the stars. It was supposed to be like every night the sky was clear. The dozens of kids who refuse to sleep, crowded in front of a small window.

Looking outside of the window is a very tedious thing. Miss Serena- the worst care taker in the history of care takers- sleeps in the room right next to the window. If the kids were ever found, everything would be lost. One of the oldest- and loudest- orphans has almost gotten them busted countless times. Although she is 15, she definitely doesn't act like it. Sometimes, the orphans say, she is more like the children than the children are. Audrey was the kind that confused everyone. She was always hyper, but those who roomed with her said she would wake up sweating and panic-stricken. She wouldn't say anything.

That was just how things were. The orphans found the abusive life 'normal.' It's not like they've had families to tell them otherwise. They thought life would remain the same until their end. But they thought wrong.
