Her.
She was beauty and yet, she wasn't.
Plain brown hair that went in tangles down her back. The girl was not one to walk with etiquette, nor perfect posture or poise.
She wore glasses that mirrored her plain amber eyes. Her teeth were not completely straight, or perfectly crystal white. She often wore baggy sweatshirts over ripped blue jeans and sneakers that fit a little big.
In her image, she would never amount to flawless.
She failed to see what others could. Independent, kind, with a laugh that sang through the crowded halls.
She was beauty and yet, she could never see herself beyond plain.
Middle height with a soft complexion. She never had the perfectly smooth stomach or long legs colored tan.
Yet, when he looked at her, all he saw was splendor.
Shining like the brightest star in the darkest night. Her whole body was one perfect creation.
She was striking stunning, her brown hair glittering like melted chocolate. Her eyes gleamed with intelligence and determination. She stood tall with pride, her chin jutting forward with utmost confidence.
Then she turned away, her back toward the boy. But he still stared, seeing only the radiation of the simplest of beautiful things.
Unexpressed elegance, hidden grace.
Inner beauty.
His feet moved like flowing water and he made it almost to her side. His blue eyes followed the girl's feet, watching the white tiles, not daring to speak a word.
Then he tapped her on the shoulder. One quick touch, yet it sent shivers up his spine.
He didn't realize she had stopped. His mouth was dry, his eyes snapping around.
The girl didn't understand. The boy was handsome, with messy blonde hair and sparkling blue eyes. She had seen him before in her classes, and messing around with his friends at lunch. His face was flushed, his tongue moving over his lips as he struggled to speak.
Why was he talking to her?
Then she remembered her clothes; she wore nothing but a plain sweatshirt and jeans. She hadn't bothered with makeup, her hair was quickly brushed and thrown behind her shoulders.
She was instantly embarrassed. Why was he wasting his time?
Then he closed his mouth and hung his head, his face red. Swallowing hard, the girl nodded to herself and started to turn away.
"You're beautiful."
His voice was soft. The girl blinked and looked back at him.
"What?"
The boy smiled and spoke up, his voice stronger. "You are the most beautiful girl I have ever seen."
He hesitated, looking down at his shoes, then into her eyes.
Then he kissed her.
