Do you ever get the feeling that something bad is about to happen?I had that feeling when I was walking alone on a Friday night in New York. It was a dark, cold, windy night. My sweatshirt wasn't helping very much. I shoved my hands in my pockets and continued walking down the dark alleyway. I heard something behind me and I whipped my head around to see flickering yellow lights giving the ally a glow that made me uncomfortable. I walked a little faster, just to get out of the streets and into the safety of my apartment.
When I got inside my apartment building, I sighed and walked up the three flights of stairs and turned down the hallway. My apartment was the very last door on the third floor. Once I unlocked my door I smelled something. A distinct smell I remember as a kid, my mother was in my apartment. I walked in, "Hello Sweetie" my mother said.
"Ummm Hi" I muttered.
"How was your day?"
"Good... What are you doing here?" She sighed.
"I thought you would like some company."
" Oh..." I said quietly. I heard her laugh and watched as she walked out of my kitchen with an apple pie in one hand and a cup in another.
" Mother, what is all this?" I asked. She sighed and looked at me with her large, icy blue eyes. She put a tight smile on her lips.
"I came to tell you something." She said, lowering her eyes to the small table that was stuffed in the corner of the room with two chairs.
" What is it?" I asked. I walked over to her and looked down at her. I was fairly taller then my mother, by a good foot or so. She looked up at me with tears in her eyes.
" Your father was in a car crash today and he didn't survive...." She said, her voice cracking at the last word. My chest felt like the entire world had been put on it. My chest was cramping and it was becoming hard to breath. I slowly fell down to my knees, gripping at my hair, crying. My mother came down and wrapped her arms around me. I put my head on her chest and cried. I cried for 10 minutes before finally pulling myself together.
"It's going to be okay." I think I heard my mother say but I blocked out everything. I didn't know what to do. My whole career was because I wanted to be just like my father. He was my idol, I looked up to him. He helped me figure what I wanted to do with my life. He helped me realize that I was a bisexual human being. He supported me throughout everything that I ever did, that I ever wanted to do, my dreams. Now that my father is dead, I don't know what to do with my life. I felt like quitting medical school, but I didn't. I was so far into my medical school. I had two years of residency left before I become a surgeon.
My father was a doctor. He loved medicine, just like I did. I would study with him when I was little. He was an amazing surgeon. A cardiac surgeon.
"CAS!" CAS!" CASTIEL!"
"What?" I say as I return to reality.
"Did you hear me?" she asks.
"NO! Just get out of here!" I spat into her face. She doesn't say anything and gets up, walking out the door.
-God... I can't believe that my father is dead.- I sat on the floor, staring at the ceiling, tears flowing down my face. I stumbled for my phone that was in my pocket. With shaking hands, I dialed my friend, Jo Harvelle.
"Hello?" She says as she picks up.
"It's me. Can I come over?"
"Yeah, sure... Is everything alright?" I don't say anything and I hang up.
