Year Eight- After The Great Battle and everyone knows Draco was forced to be a Deatheater, though they still see him as a major jerk.
Hermione POV-
I lay there, too exhausted to cry anymore. Draco called me a mudblood, again. Yes, Draco, not Malfoy, not ferret, Draco.
'Why did this have to happen to me?'
I thought, staring at the wall blankly from my curled up position. I didn't care. I didn't care a word he said, until third year. Third year when I punched him.
It took me a whole year to figure out why exactly it felt so good to punch him that one time. Even now, I feel a warm tingle of electricity in my hand, just thinking about it.
I, Hermione Jean Granger, Gryffindor Princess, Brightest Witch Of Her Age, am in love with none other than the ferret, the Slytherin Prince, Draco Lucius Malfoy.
I shudder to think of it. All that drama about Lavender? Fake. All I really felt is one of my best friends was taken away by a girl just using him for fame. Protectiveness, not Jealousy. I let come off that way so none would suspect who had really stolen my heart and locked it away.
And all it does is bring me pain. All it does is make it hurt. I cry every night, unable to sleep without remembering his harsh words and laughter. His every word pulls my mind to listen, only for him to rip one more hole in my heart.
Today I couldn't take it. I ran away, not bothering to care who saw how much it hurt. Tears streamed down my cheeks and I turned tail. As soon as I reached my dorm I locked the door. I've been here crying and staring since.
'Oh Draco,' I thought,'If only you knew how much it really hurt. But then, you'd only hurt me worse, wouldn't you. What boy could ever love a Mudblood like me...' I set off in a new round of tears, crying myself to sleep.
Draco POV-
I'd done it. I'd hurt Hermione worse than ever before. And I am not proud.
*Flashback*
I smirk down at Hermione. "Hello, Mudblood. I bet if you got a cut you'd bleed brown as dirt. And what's that on your head? A mop? Oh wait, it's your mess of a hair. I bet mice and birds would find it to ugly to sleep in, and that's why it's a rat's nest. Go read in the library, it's all your good for, Mudblood." I struggled to keep from hitting my head on the wall for saying that to the intelligent, beautiful girl in front of me.
I only felt worse when I saw the tears fall down her cute cheeks and she turned tail and ran away. I no longer cared who was there, that Crabbe and Goyle, useless idiots that they are, would tell the rest of Slytherin in some way. I gave into my earlier struggle, dropping the constant smirk and turning to wall.
"Stupid! Stupid! Brainless idiotic childish brat!" I said out loud to myself, hitting my head against the wall and then my fist, not caring that my knuckles began to bleed.
I fell to my knees and let my head drop into my hands.
*end flashback*
I now sat in my dorm, a bandaged hand in my lap as I sat on my bed, head against the headboard, looking up at the headboard.
I know I like Hermione. I've known it since I first saw her on the train, she came to my compartment looking for Longbottom's frog-toad-whatever, and I instantly saw how beautiful she is, bushy hair and all, though it's more curly now.
Me being the childish jerk I was, I decided to pick on her to disguise my feelings. If anyone's noticed she's the only one I've ever bullied specifically, anyone else it was just I'm-bored-and-your-not-pureblood-or-are-a-blood-traitor. I was such a fool to think blood status mattered.
That's the other reason I disguised my feelings, Father would completely disapprove. He's gone now, Dementor's Kiss, and Mother and I aren't actually all that bothered. He was terrible.
Anyways, I kept up the charade all this time, even after realizing I was being a horrible person, because I was certain she hated me. Today, I was proved wrong. It could not have hurt her that much so suddenly without a reason. She seemed to ignore me before, and now...
I sigh. Turns out I hold the heart of the girl who holds mine, and I've been slowly ripping it apart. I had seriously thought she loved that jerk, Weasel. She did a real good job of acting.
Most people think they're together, but I know Weasel's actually dating Lavender, whom he saved during the battle. I might know this because of totally-not-stalker-ish tendencies.
I got up, ran out my door, walked out of the Slytherin common room, and made my way towards the library, hoping she would be there. 'I need to tell her the truth.'
Hermione POV-
I got up, hesitating in front of my door before collecting my resolve and sneaking across the Gryffindor common room. I crept to the library, hoping to leave my sorrows behind with a good book.
I reached for the handle on the door to the library, when I felt and saw a hand doing the same as me. I yanked my hand away, turning to see-
None other than Draco Malfoy himself. I blushed, against my every will not to, and began to turn away, when I noticed something odd.
He wasn't wearing his usual smirk, and his face seemed broken and sad. His fist was bandaged as well and his forehead had a large bruise, beginning to swell. Almost against my will, I said,"Are you okay, Dr-Malfoy?"
Draco POV-
I sincerely thought she would run. But then, she looked at my face, glancing at my hand and forehead, she said in that angelic voice, "Are you okay Dr-Malfoy?"
"Y-yeah," I said, stuttering and hoping I hid the blush from her almost calling me by my first name. "I-I'm fine H-hermione." Ah, the feel of her name rolling off my tongue, surely this is what heaven feels like.
She looked at me, wearing a shocked expression, probably because instead of smirking and and calling her mudblood, I called by her first name.
Knowing that this might be my only chance, I took advantage of her being shocked and staying still, letting all the words fall out.
"HermioneimreallysorryIneverreallywantedtohurtyouandiactuallylikeyoubutbeingthechildishkidiwasipickedonyoutohideitandicontinuedcauseithoughtyouhatedmebutnowirealizeyoudontandmyfatherisntheretodissaproveandiknowyouprobablywillneverforgivemeijustwantyoutoknowyouownmyheart."
I said all this and ran away, not knowing if she even understood a word I said, and not knowing if I wanted her too.
Hermione POV-
I stood there, stunned. Draco Malfoy, the boy I love, LOVES ME! He knew he was being a jerk and he APOLOGIZED.
I know anyone wouldn't be able to forgive him, but the thing is, I couldn't live with myself unless I did.
I smiled. I smiled, and laughed joyously. Who knew the most terrible day of my life could turn into the best. Not perfect, but the best.
