About four years ago I had the idea for a story set in a group of three worlds, a classmate of mine suggested I call it Triterrace and stack the worlds one on another to make it a three leveled world. I liked the idea and only changed the name slightly.

The three worlds were made up of an underworld, an earth like world and a sky world. A variety of races were meant to inhabit these worlds and originally I had gigantic dragons as the rulers of it.

My first attempts at stories within this world followed a mage called Aruan. This character began as a student at a school for mages near the beginning of the world, he was nothing special until events led to him being one of very few to survive an invasion of monstrous being from another world.

I made numerous attempts at writing about the school of magic, but never got far before hitting walls, I realize now that I wasn't introducing conflict into the stories until far too late, causing them to be uninteresting.

My next attempts were set in a later time period, Aruan had become immortal through a curse and boredom drove him to become apathetic to the world. Along the way he befriended a vampire called Zerail, who's own family had been the last of the ruling class of vampires. I wrote a very short story about the collapse of vampire society and their return to being monsters after Zerail fled.

The two immortals shared a home and more or less ignored history as it passed them by. They interacted with the world only a few times, appearing briefly in other short stories.

Eventually Zerail was killed, leaving Aruan alone for the last few years before Triterra itself began to die. As the world collapsed a few of it's inhabitants fled through rips in reality to other worlds, but Aruan stayed. When all but a very small section of the world has collapsed to nothing, Aruan and Death sat alone watching the void swallow what was left. Then they too were destroyed.

That was the end.

None of the stories were very good. I was never able to write what I imagined. I intend this to be the grave of Triterra, I won't be going back to it, I'll let the story die. Part of me want to try again, but I'll never recapture the story in my head, much less be able to write it.

I may use future chapters of this book to write more detail about Triterra, I haven't decided yet.
