Hospitals, she hated the metallic and sterile smell that had begun to be some sort of norm. As far as twenty-three year old Kayla Anderson was concerned, hospitals smelled like death. And death was something becoming more and more real each time she visited. The heel of her black boots pumped up and down rhythmically against the hard linoleum.

Each of the magazines on the small coffee table in front of her were at least three years old but still Kay idly flipped through an old issue of People which was displaying a very unflattering picture of Kim Kardashian.

"What trash", she muttered under her breath replacing the People magazine with a book she found laying there.

Words were Kay's only escape. The only way she could leave the scary and imposing possibilities that were racking her brain.

He loved her like each day would be there last. His black hair curled ever so slightly as he looked down on her with his deep grey eyes. The look was enough to calm and ocean and still a thousands hearts which was the exact effect that J felt. X caressed the side of her face removing the strand of brown hair and placing it behind her ear. No words were needed. Not one. The simple glance and the heat of the sun beating down on their faces was enough. Enough that each of them new that they were all they both needed.

The feeling flowing through Kay's body was that of awe and respect. She was just and intern at her local editing complex but one day she New she would write something like what she just read. With so much depth and meaning.

"Miss Anderson", the nurse called leading Kay's mind away from the book.

Her heart began beating fiercely as she clutched the book until her fingers turned white.

Commands. She needed commands.

"Get up Kay", she pleaded with herself inside her head.

Rising slowly she began to placing the book back on the coffee table only to re think it and throw it quickly into her bag.

Each step she took felt like a hundred. The nurse led her into the room instructing her to wait and that she would be back with the doctor.

The door clicked shut softly the sound playing again and again in Kay's mind.

Click, Click, Click.

"Breathe Kay breathe", she instructed herself.

Taking the book back out of her bag she rubbed the hard smooth cover. It was one of those books that had flaps that could come off for the cover. And it seemed that the flat was lost maybe still on the table but all Kay saw was the black cover and gold words on the spine reading "Stay".

Opening the book she stopped at a random page -something she never did- and started reading.

J had a smile so bright, X thought. That if the sun ever forgot to rise one smile from J could light the whole earth. The grass had been allowed to grow high and each step they took left little prints in the grass. "Things won't be perfect forever", J whispered in X's ear. A look of question fell on his face as......

Knock Knock

The colour drained from her face as the door handle twisted.

"Why, why can't things be perfect forever?" She mused throwing the book back into her bag.

"Miss Anderson", the doctor came in and sat across from her on a rolling stool.

The door clicked shut and her throat became dry.

Looking him in the eyes she nodded.

"This must be.....Do you have someone you'd like to be here with you?"
