Your Glory Ranger's Pilot?

Start from the beginning

“I-” I started to talk again before I was interrupted.

“You know why, Lila.” The Russians and the Wei’s split as Chuck walked right into the middle of our circle, facing me with his hands in his pockets.

His hair was it’s usual mess, shirt a little more wrinkled than usual and there were dark colored bags under each of his blue eyes. He held my gaze with a strong one and I felt Raleigh wrap an arm around my waist, pulling me close to him.

“Your it‘s pilot, aren‘t you?” Chuck stated, pointing his chin at me. His voice even sounded tired.

    “That‘s preposterous!” Aleksis scoffed.

“There‘s never been a single piloting.” The female member of the duo stated, backing up her husband.

“There has, when my brother got taken away, I killed that Kaiju and got Gipsy back to shore.” Raleigh explained.

“But you were neurally linked to your brother most of the time, you didn‘t have to experience the whole neural load.” Herc countered, meaning no disrespect.

“Am I wrong, Lila?” Chuck directed all the eyes back to me.

“Look, guys, I gotta-” I started to move away from the group but Raleigh tightened his arm around my waist, pulling me close to him again before hooking a finger under my chin and making me look at him.

I let out a strangled sigh, knowing I couldn’t keep this from them forever.

“It‘s true.” I whispered, not looking away from Raleigh’s gaze as the other pilots around us gasped around us.

I saw pain, sadness and hurt flash across his face all at once as his arm loosened around me and he took a step back. I tried to reach my hand out to him but I knew better, keeping my clenched fists at my side.

“Your Glory Ranger‘s pilot?” I nodded at Sasha’s question.

“Holy shit.” One of the triplet’s whistled in amazement.

I yelped as I was pulled into a tight bear hug by the male Russian. He cheered and hollered, spinning me in circles as he gripped me with one of his strong arms. When he finally let me on my feet I took several stumbling steps back, causing everyone to laugh.

“Such a small woman- such a strong heart you have.” Aleksis stated, smiling broadly.

“More like a brain of steel.” I joked, feeling some of the excitement around me make me feel a little better.

“How‘d you even figure out you were a solo pilot?” Herc asked, eyes wide as saucers.

“In the Academy. Glory was used for a lot of the Jaeger training exercises. They were trying to decommission her because she kept trying to kill her pilots.” I explained.

“When me and my possible co-pilot got into her, Jose’s suit instantly siezed up. But mine didn’t. I was totally unharmed. I was snooping around one night and found Glory in a huge warehouse. When I climbed up her, she reacted to me. ” I had turned back around to face the Jaeger behind me, smiling at her.

“Her Conn-Pod opened on her own, my suit was hanging there, waiting for me. Pentecost heard the commotion and when he found me, I was piloting the Jaeger alone.” There was a brief silence before someone else spoke up.

“That‘s what those weeks of tests were for.” Raleigh stated in a tight tone.

“We swept it under the rug and called it a miracle that I didn‘t die.” I continued, trying not to let Raleigh’s cold shoulder bother me to much right now.
