squonk poem

hiding behind a mask of pain

she drowns in her own tears

streaming down her face like rain

hiding away for years

a Pennsylvanian wonder

never before seen

she only comes out during thunder

for humans are too mean

her heart is of gold

her skin is quite rough

her species is old

she hopes she'll be enough

she lives in the woods unknown

her home destroyed by the timber industry

she will always be alone

but she will never feel abandoned or

lonely
