Hi! I'm Lucas, and I'm here to tell you how my life ended.
It started on a normal day, ya know, hanging around my friends in Texas, playin' around, havin' fun, then I get home, and before I can even start doing my homework (and secretly texting my friends.) and then it hit me. The Talk. Now, I'm not talking about that sort of "Talk". Hopefully, that is still years ahead. I'm talking about moving. Not the it's-just-to-another-street-so-we're-closer-to-the-school moving, but the going-to-the-other-side-of-the-country moving. So, instead of taking it easy and just say "Yeah, sure, okay", like absolutely no child in their right mind would do (my opinion), I did the usual thing. In my head, I said exactly this: No. No. No. Absolutely no. No way. This is not happening. On the outside, I stared at the floor in shock., muttered something like "Uh-duh" and ran to my room to think about this.
I sat on my bed, the tips of my fingers tingling, my bottom lip quivering, my whole body shaking and stared blankly at the white roof of my bedroom. I could feel the wall that I had built for about 11 and a half (yes, seriously, a half.) years crumbling to the floor. I took my phone and messaged my friend Jason. I'm moving I sent. K which street? he answered. Really? People need to understand that that is NOT the only kind of moving there is! I felt them bubbling up inside me. No. I'm moving to Cambridge I answered, completely forgetting that I'm one of the only people in my class that not only know the states, but I know the cities. I quickly added It's in Massachusetts. Jason went offline. They were ready to come out. About two minutes later I had three new messages, one from Patty, one from Morris, and one from Rebecca. They all sent something like, I'm so sorry you're moving, BLAH BLAH BLAH.
Damnit, Jason, I thought as he came back to our chat. They came out. Tears and tears coming out of my sea green eyes.
It'll be fine he said. I could feel he knew it was not. Then he went offline. I slid my fingers through my black, dark messy hair. Then I let my face fall softly on my pillow and cried myself to sleep.
And that, dear friend, is how my life ended.
The next morning I woke up, my eyes red from crying all night, my mind still kinda nonfunctional, with the urge to do something big. Something that would make my parents realize how incredibly upset I was about the whole moving thing. I slid off my bed and fell on my butt on purpose. As I sat on the blue rug of my bedroom, the alarm clock rang. I heard my sister, Lucy, screaming from the bedroom next to me. I hadn't though about how hard this would be on her. Being 2 years younger than me, she had been so excited to celebrate her 9th birthday party on June 11th. Now those plans would be ruined, since we would arrive at Cambridge in July. Suddenly I felt very very very bad for her.I wanted to go and hug her, and tell her everything would be okay, even if I knew it probably wouldn't. But then I realized that if I was gonna do something big, I had to do it now. And as I heard my parents run to Lucy's room, I also realized this was a perfect distraction. So I got dressed as quick as possible, wrote a quick note saying that I went to school early, filled my backpack with what I needed, and and jumped out the window of my house.
