Darkness. Pain. Confusion.
Leo was starting to wake up. "What happened?" he asked himself.
He attempted to get up. He yelped with pain. He couldn't feel his right front leg. His right back leg was exploding with pain. He opened his eyes, only to discover that he could only see out of one eye.
He howled with pain. It drew the attention to some humans dressed in green. They approached him cautiously. One stretched his hand over for Leo to sniff. Leo licked his hand. It triggered something in his mind. His owner. Where is his owner?
"SAAAAMMMMMM!!!!" He howled.
"Shhhh. Boy, be quiet. Shhhhh." One of the humans ordered him.
Leo started to feel dizzy. The world around him was tinted with black. It swirled around him, grays and blacks combining until Leo felt so bad he passed out.

"Is he ok?"
"Yeah. He made it, thankfully."
"He is really lucky to survive an explosion like that.... Poor Sam. He would be so proud of Leo right now."
"He's waking up!"
Leo woke up with a start. He tried to get up, but was struggling.
"No, no, no. Lay down!" The humans ordered him. He did as he was told. He tried to lick his paw.... but it was gone. He realized that he couldn't see out of right eye. Now he saw that a cast was on his back right leg. He was really confused.
"I have no idea what we are going to do with him..... Sam's gone and he's pretty much useless. I guess we'll put him up for adoption."
"I guess I'll call the shelter later. You're right... Sam would be really proud."
"I'll tell the Captain."
The humans left.
Leo was really confused. "Where's Sam?"
He saw his friend Loki in the corner of the room. She looked up at him with sad eyes.
"You're in terrible shape, Leo." Loki said.
"What happened? I'm really confused." He asked Loki.
"You and Sam were checking for any explosives and y'all were caught in an explosion."
"Where is he!"
"Oh Leo... I'm so sorry.... Sam didn't make it....." Loki looked at him with sad eyes.
Leo sat there, shocked. He laid down slowly. How could this have happened? How could he have let this happen to Sam?
