(A.N: Sorry the beginning is a little slow, but bare with me it will get better.)

-Beth's POV-

I'm at home finishing up my geometry on my laptop, when I start to get hungry. my stomach has been bothering me all day so I haven't eaten yet. I made some ginger and mint tea earlier and that helped some.

I got up from the dinning room table where all my homeschooling stuff is kept and walked to the kitchen. I looked around not knowing what to make. I look in the fridge and see a container of mushrooms. I grab them and put them on the counter, then I get my jar of bacon fat and put a big spoonful on the small cast iron pan. I add the mushrooms, then put in a whole bunch of Worcestershire sauce and balsamic vinegar. while that cooked together I grabbed a bagel an spread some softer butter on bother sides. when the mushrooms got done I put all of them on one side and them put some grated cheese on top. I put both pieces in my moms toaster oven and set the timer for 5 minutes.

(A.N.- I actually make this a lot. It's really good!)

when It's done I put the two pieces together and walk back the to the kitchen table to start my world history. About Two hour later I get done with the section. My dog Rocky gets up from his bed and stretches. he walks over to me and puts his head on my lap.

"come here." I say patting my hands on my lap. he puts his two big paws on my legs and looks at me with his cute little bat face.

I sit there and pet him for about 10 minutes, then I get up and go to my room. I plop down on my bed and pull my phone off of my nightstand. I have a text from my mom.

Mom: I'm heading home now. is there anything you need before I come home?

Me: We need avocados. I want to make guacamole tonight.

I go into my closet to put on my over sized sweat pants and a tank top. I come back out and check my phone.

Mom: okay, I'll be home in a half hour and a half then. the traffic is really bad.

Me: Please tell me your not text and driving!

Mom: you know how careful I am.

Me: I'm done texting you, I don't want you getting hurt.

God, she drives me crazy sometimes.

---Three hours latter---

It's almost 8 o'clock, and mom isn't home yet. I'm passing my hall way trying not to freak out. I call my mom's my best friend to see if she has heard from her. I pick up my phone and go through my contacts until I find her.

After a few rings she picks up.

"Hello?"

"hey, have to heard from my mom in the last three hours or so. She said she was going to be home in and a half in hour and now it's been three hours and she's not picking up her cell." I say freaking out.

"calm down, okay? we'll figure this out. just keep calling her and I'll ask around for you, okay?

"okay" I agreed "thank you, Rae"

"Of course" said then hung up. I guess she is in as much of a hurry than I am.

I call her five more times. I get voice mail every time. I call again.

"Hey, this is Linda. Please leave a message after the beep, thanks" Her warm happy voice fills my ears. God, please let her be okay.

"Mom please just pick the phone," I say almost in tears that this point. " It's been three hours and I'm worried about you. you always pick up the phone when I call. why not now? Please, call me back so I know you are okay. I love you." I hang up. And as soon as I do my phone rings.

"hello?" I say not even looking at the phone, hoping that it is her.

"Hello, is this Beth Anderson?" A man with a serious voice asks me.

"yes, why?"

" I'm doctor Quentin from the Portland hospital. There has been a accident. I'm so sorry we couldn't all you any sooner."

"wait! Is my mom okay?" I ask almost yelling into the phone.

"Well..." he trails off

"Is she?" I'm getting scared.

" She didn't make it, I'm so sorry. we did everything we could have."

"Are you serious? you can't be. There is no way." I say, I can't believe this. She's gone?
