Caroline hadn't been opposed to her to a trip to Scotland when her new foster parents suggested it. She also didn't care when they shipped her away to a boarding school there. They just to claim they were charitable enough to adopt a poor unfortunate soul but didn't want to actually raise one. Which was alright Caroline supposed. She didn't care where she went or what happened so long she had a book and a full stomach. She was rather low maintenance in that way. However when she had turned fifteen turn and stumbled onto some old casting circle still bathed in mystical residue she didn't think a sandwhich and Jane Austen could help when the old spell cast centuries ago yanked her back in time. She was a little miffed then. She found herself in the 16th century. Not the 21rst she knew and loved...well was indifferent to. So there was a bit culture shock there, not to mention over all shock. How did she get there? Why did this happen? What was she going to do? And who would take care of her? She was maturing and independent, sure, but she was fifteen. She was a dumb kid who had only just gotten her period. She couldn't acclimate to a new freaking century and be responsible! One or the other. Luckily for her, she was a pretty little thing. A laird and his lady picked her up and took her in. She was yet again, adopted. However this new family was was Scottish, of nobility and actually loved her. They loved her! She knew they did. They told her so. Her new father, William Douglas, smiled at her and patted her head. Her new mother, Laoghaire Douglas fussed over her and said "I truly wish ye were my daughter. Lord knows my bairn aren't nearly as handsome. Why the devil took an ugly stick to our eldest."
Cruel that comment may be from flesh and blood, but from her adopted mother it was sweet. She loved her knew family. She had two brothers and another sibling on the way. She was happy. Her brothers, Callum and Nevan were fiercely protective of her and though they teased, they always made her feel welcome to the family. She was beloved by her clansmen too. She may have been a sassenach at first, but they grew to love her over time. Her kind heart, gentle smile and beautiful face charmed them. They spread rumors of her beauty everywhere. The boys of the village threw themselves at her feet and doted on her. She had a rough start to life but by the time she had turned nineteen she had a nice life for herself as the cherished only daughter of distuinguished laird. Caroline was sitting pretty and happy about it.
