(Third person pov)
Cindy and Caleb were the best of friends ever since they were at the age of four. As they grew older they got closer to each other, but they never felt like they were more than just the greatest pair of best friends ever made on the planet. It was at the phase of starting middle school when they started to drift off with their new friends. Since they didn't have any classes together, they didn't get as much interaction with each other as they had in elementary school. And their after-school time was consumed by their loads of homework (especially math). They still lived next door to each other, and they still said "hi" whenever they passed each other while walking up the driveway, but its different now. The greatest pair of best friends ever made on the planet came to an end.
(Cindy's pov)
I miss Caleb, I thought to myself. I hope he feels the same way. I stared up at my roof, looking at my Fairy tail poster. I felt close to dying from boredom. Thank goodness for the new and improved so-called "technology"!
As I was scrolling through my contacts list on my iPhone 6, I noticed Caleb's contact name was weird - When did I ever call him CALEB THE SEXY MAN? I didn't ever change his contact name! Or maybe I did?
I wish that when we were younger, we made an oath to be the greatest pair of best friends ever made on the planet until the sun had died. My life wouldn't be this boring. All my extra time in the past was devoted to hanging out with Caleb. Only Caleb. I remember that one time when we were seven years old. In my bedroom, I was coloring then all of the sudden, a big snore exploded in the direction of my bed. Caleb was flat out laying on my Tinker bell comforter. My rainbow teddy bear from Build-A-Bear was submerged in his icky drool. Okay, not totally submerged, but one section on its leg was wet. I pushed Caleb over and laid down parallel to him, but my head at his feet, his feet at my head. I fell asleep hugging my stitch plushy from the Disney store. I woke up seeing that it was already 6:30. Caleb was sitting at my desk coloring. I couldn't tell what he was coloring, but i quietly sneaked over towards him, and scared him from behind. "Boo!" I yelled in his ear. A big orange mark was on his page, starting from the sun, into a white piece of nothing. I noticed that it was a coloring page that I had started. He looked at the piece of paper, and looked at me with his eyebrows at a downwards angle. He was mad.
"sorry?" I squealed.
He just stared at me for a second. It started to creep me out. He walked towards me, and I walked back as he got closer to me with every step. Before I knew it, I was backed up against the wall. "Hahahahahahaha! you looked so scared Cindy!" I slapped him in the face. Then we just started laughing until our stomach's felt like an agonizing pain.
I miss those days. I want to hang out with him today. Right now. I called his number.
Ring ring ring. Ring ring ring. Ring ring ring. Please pick up, Caleb. Ring ring ri-
"Hello?" I just sat there. staring at the phone. "Hello? cin-"
"Caleb!" I interrupted his sentence, "What are you planning on doing today? Oh, and hi!" What are you doing, Cindy? I thought to myself. He started speaking again.
"Um, hold on. I'm gonna ask my parents if we have anything going on today. Don't hang up! I'll be right back." Did he just tell me to not hang up? I think he's excited that I called. I really want him to come over. Please be available!
(Caleb's pov)
"Mom! Dad! Are we doing anything today?" I was panting from running down the stairs.
"No, why?" My mother tilted her head.
I didn't want to say why. They would probably be all anxious. "Cindy is asking if I can come over." She actually wasn't asking me to come over, but I really wanted to.
"Uh, uh sure!" My mother tilted her head in confusion.
"Go ahead! I knew you always had a secret crush on her anyways. Hahaha!" My dad was teasing. But it was true. I had a crush on her since the third grade. But... I don't think she ever felt the same way.
"I do not have a crush on Cindy." I lied. But I was so happy.
I ran back to my phone. She in most likelihood heard my footsteps. Fortunately, she hadn't hung up yet. I placed my iPhone 7 next to my ear and spoke. "I'm available today. why were you asking me anyways?"
(Cindy's pov)
I blushed. I could almost feel his soft voice flow through the speaker of the phone. I think I was falling for him, Oh. No. I forgot I was on the phone - "Oh, uh. I was wondering if you wanted to come over. My parents are fine with the whole plan. They were actually kind of suprised when I asked them if you could come over. I texted them. They're not home right now."
He stuttered. "O-okay." Did he like me? The beautiful me? Okay, I'm being narcissistic now. He hung up.
After five minutes of impatient waiting, the doorbell rang. I ran downstairs, down the hall, through the kitchen, right to my front door. I stared at the door knob before I opened it. I took a few deep breaths then twisted the knob, and pulled it. There he was Caleb. Standing on my front porch. I missed him. I threw my arms around Caleb and jumped onto him, causing him to fall. "Sorry! Sorry. I'm so sorry."
"Heh. you already said that. Its okay." We hugged, then I invited him to come inside.
I noticed him rubbing his back. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, yeah it's probably just a small bruise anyways." He lifted his shirt about two inches, and trust me, it was not a small bruise. Maybe medium. No, no. It was humongous!
"C-Ca-Caleb. You need ice. I'll-I'll get it for you."
"No- no. Cindy, its okay." He grasped my arm and pulled me up the stairs and into my room. He looked through my desk and pulled out the special coloring we made that day we fell asleep on my bed. The orange streak was still there.
"How did you know I kept that?"
"I just know. So, let's finish it. Don't mind the mark i made when you scared the heck out of me." He laughed
(Third person pov)
Both Cindy and Caleb sat in the same chair finishing the coloring page they never had completed. Cindy colored the sea a dark blue, highlighting it with teal. And Caleb concluded the trees and the birds, shading like a professional artist. Makes sense. He was in the art major. They both had a talent in art, but Cindy chose photography for her elective. From this day forward, they kept on meeting up after school, helping each other with homework, and sometimes even coloring a new page. They ripped each coloring page in half so they can keep the memory. They grew closer from this day on. They were once again, the greatest pair of best friends ever made on the planet. And they would be the greatest pair of best friends ever made on the planet- until the sun dies.
