I wake to see that I am confined to darkness. My eyes are heavy with sleep and my head throbs along with the steady beating of my heart. I sit up slowly so not to faint of my dizziness. My stomach turns and I feel sick. My elbows that supported my weight of my body trembled and I lowered myself back down again. Only then do I realize I am lost in blackness. My hands become sweaty and I cannot help but think of where I am let alone how I got here. I sway slightly and I roll over to vomit only air. My stomach again tightens like a wet rag being ringed of its water. Am I sick? I wonder wretchedly, Am I going to die in this place of some horrible disease?
Thoughts race across my mind of my body writhing in agony as I slowly reach my final breath.
I lay on my back to except the oncoming experience of death. We were always dying though. From the moment we were born we inched closer and closer to the reapers scythe. Only a mere flicker in time. There one moment gone the next; My cage sways yet again but this time indistinct yelling follows close behind. No! I will not die here! I pull myself up and find my feet.
Stumbling into the darkness I give fourth a search to find an escape. Shuffling my feet as not to stub my delicate toes I make progress through the hot, soupy air. I feel something small and soft brush against my toe. I realize only then that I am shoeless and yank my exposed foot away. Chills run up my spine as it scrambles its way through my pant leg. I jump up and down as quietly as possible, trying to shake the invader out.
