My heartbeat is ringing through my ears, my palms are clammy and my legs are shaky. The tight, confined space restricts my comfort and access to roll myself in a ball and make myself smaller. My knees are tightly wound to my chest with my arms wrapped around them like twine, my chest being crushed with the action.

I can still hear the distant blare of the sirens from the outside world and every now and then a few screams.

All of a sudden, our front door is shoved open with a loud bang and heavy thud, causing me to nearly scream. Boots clamber up the stairwell and disperse around the lower floor. The footsteps are all synchronized, almost robotic. Multiple fists collide with my bedroom door causing me to jump and grasp onto the pills hidden in my right hand.

"Open the door. We haven't got much time." A masculine voice is shouting through the door.

Go away. I yell at the stranger in my own conscious. Please, please, don't hurt me.

"I'm here to help you." His voice does not sound kind. "Alright, you've given me no choice."

Shortly after his warning, my door is clearly blown in, I cover my ears with my palms and hold my breath so I don't scream. There is no noise except his ragged breathing, my throat burns from the restricted oxygen.

I can hear him, walking towards the closet, he tries the door knob.
