Chapter 1: Alive

Jyn awoke to the sound of waves crashing onto the shore. She didn't know what time it was, but based on the position of the sun, she assumed it was early in the afternoon. As Jyn lie on the beach, she closed her eyes and dreamt of her father, enjoying the sun's radiating warmth on her skin. As Jyn was lying on the beach, she found herself playing with the sand, the grains felt soft against her rough hands. She occasionally would grab a handful of sand and release it, watching each grain descend to the ground and the sand that remained glued to her sweaty palms acted as a shield, protecting her from the sun's radiation. As Jyn continued to play with the sand, a thought crept into her mind; Did Casssian survive the explosion and if so where was he? She tried screaming his name, but all that managed to escape her lips was a raspy breath. Jyn sat up and wiped her hands on her trousers, removing the excess sand. Once sitting up she surveyed her surroundings, hoping to find Cassian and to excess what was left of Scarif. She was about to give up all hope of finding Cassian alive, when a faint noise that sounded like it was coming from her left caught her attention. Jyn leaned a little more to the left, hoping to hear the sound again. It felt like eternity until she heard the sound again, except for this time she could make out a name, it was her name. Jyn's eyes widened as she realized it was Cassian who was  frantically screaming her name. Jyn didnt even bother to reply to Cassian's frantic screaming instead she looked herself over for possible injuries and slowly began to stand up. To her surprise all she had sustained in the exposition was a few cuts and bruises. One she was standing, Jyn started running in the direction of Cassian's voice, kicking up sand as she went. The moaning continued to get louder the closer she got to Cassian. It felt like forever until Jyn finally reached him, his eyes were tightly shut and his left hand was hugging his bleeding bullet wound. Jyn knelt down beside Cassian, and removed a strand of hair that was covering his right eye. In between Cassian's labored breathing, my name managed to escape his lips. "Jyn," he said through strenuous breaths. "Yes Cassian it is me," I said while giving him a kiss on the cheek. He opened his eyes and looked around, assessing his surroundings. I watched as Cassian's face scrunched together and his eyebrows netted in confusion. "Are we still on Scarif?" He asked while I helped him sit up. "Yes we are, it appears as the explosion failed to kill us," I said as a smirk spread across my face.

I wrapped my arms securely under Cassian's armpits as I helped him stand up. Once he was standing, my hands moved from his armpits to his waist, just below his wound. As my fingers closed around Cassian's waist, he winced and let out a soft groan. As we started walking, Cassian's labored breaths were replaced with cries of pain. "We have to find a ship," he said in-between breaths. While walking, Cassian and I came upon AT-AT walkers that were lying on their sides engulfed in flames, Stormtroopers lay dead sprawled out next to them. As I turn my head slightly to the right, something in the corner of my eye catches my attention, a ship. "Cassian look it's our ship, the U-Wing," I yell, practically knocking him over as I violently turn my body to the right to get a better look at it. Forgetting that Cassian is injured, I pick up my pace to a slow jog, causing Cassian to yell out in excruciating pain. "Jyn slow down, I can't keep up with you," he huffed. I give Cassian an apologetic look, and slow my pace down. When we reached the ship, I opened the hatch door, and helped Cassian inside. Once inside the ship, I sat down next to Cassian and watched as he started the ship, we both held our breaths as the engine made a few hissing noises before coming to life. With the U-Wing up and running, my shoulders relaxed and I leaned back, closing my eyes.
