She read over her note one last time, only letting one stray tear fall upon the parchment. She walked around her room to make sure that everything looked fine and in place. She picked up a small picture of her family. She knew that they would be heart broken, but she just couldn't do it anymore. She knew her parents were trying to do right by her. They were just trying to make sure that when they passed and her brothers took over the estate that she would be married and have a roof over her head. But she couldn't do it, she would rather be dead than live with the man her parents had chosen for her.
Even though to everyone else he seemed like the kindest man that ever lived but she knew it was all really an act that he put on for the rest of the world. In reality he was a monster, he drank till he either passed out or until he couldn't remember what had happened that night. He had a heart as cold as iron during winter. He only saw women as toys that once were broken were meant to be thrown away and replaced by a newer shinier one.
And her number one problem with him was that he hated music. While she loved it, it was her life line. If anything bad happened she would just go to the piano in her room and play music either from an opera she had recently been to or music she had composed herself. She couldn't live without her music, it would be like death itself had decided to punish her.
So now it had finally come, she had everything ready. She put on her best gown, and picked up her black ribbon. She looked at it and tugged it ever once in a while to ensure it would do its job. She put it down on her night stand and laid down in her bed. She picked up her blue rose and softly touched the petals with the pads of her fingers. A small smile tugged at the sides of her mouth.
She was finally ready. She slowly took the ribbon from the night stand and tied it as tightly as possible around her neck. She quickly added two little pins to ensure it would hold. She laid down and held the rose gently in her fingers as darkness slowly took over her vision. Her last thought as the darkness took over her was
'I wonder if there is music on the other side?'
Then her mind went blank as the cold blanket of death wrapped around her now slowly paling body. The room seemed to have all darkened except for the blue rose still gently held in the now pale hands of the girl who will now sleep forever....
Or will she?
