“Safaa , do you know? When I was a little kid, I’d cry over small things. Then my mother would say that god always sends a savior to wipe our tears”, I heard my mom’s voice sooth out as she sat on my sister’s bed holding them tight.

“Savior?”, Waliyha asked her hands brushing away the tears on her face.

“Angell, darling. Angel”, my mother replied brushing away strands of her hair. “Angel shall come. He’ll wipe our tears and shower us with happiness. He’ll take away our pain and suffering and leave it somewhere far away”, she continued hugging both my sisters. I stood there against the wall with a smile as silent tears fell down my own face.

“When will our angel come?”, Waliyha asked quietly.

“Let’s do one thing. Today, let’s ask God for our angel in our prayers, okay?”, my mom reassured them smiling slightly, making my sisters nod their heads eagerly.

I peeked inside my sister’s bedroom through the door to see my sisters and mom kneeling on the floor praying. Their eyes were closed tightly and the night wind drifted in through the open window. I wiped away my own tears as I kneeled next to Waliyha closing my eyes and praying.

I wanted that angel to come too. To bring brightness to our gloomy hearts. Light up our house again with happiness.

“Dear God please send us our angel, so he can wipe our tears away,” the night of 21st November, 2013, I, Zayn Javaad Malik, a eighteen year old college student prayed to god asking for an angel.
