The night before we were shipped out, we had a couple of drinks we are sitting around a campfire having a good time. "Pass me a beer" said Livingston. I see the beer pass right by my head. Our girlfriends were there they were trying to have one last good night with us. We all knew that they were worried, scared, and all the other thoughts that were racing through their beautiful minds.
We all knew what they were feeling because us men felt the same feeling about ourselves. Before the night was over we all stood up. We joined hands as brothers all of us were family. "let us say a prayer" said first Sgt Montya. We all bowed our heads " Dear lord watch over our backs as we look evil straight in the face. Let us go in as brothers and leave together as brothers. Watch over our family, friends, loved ones. Amen."
I looked into all my brothers faces I can see the sadness, the worry, the tears, we all had that feeling.
" I want to say one thing. I know what you guys are thinking and I'm going say it out loud so its not in the back of our minds while we are in enemy lines fighting to live. I know that some of us will never see each other again after this is over." I said.
They all looked at me with shock I was never the type of guy to think like that but it was this time that I knew it was going to be true. "Just know that no matter what happens we will always be brothers. Not even death can break that." " urrrahh" said us all.
Our girlfriends would not leave our sides. The comfort did feel good with all the overwhelming stress and fear that was spiraling in our heads.
