the gentleman's smile

I let out a loud groan as i pounded my alarm clock, falling onto the cold floor waking up all of my senses. my mind was completely blank until i heard my son calling me i got my uniform on and ran to his room where he was struggling to get his shirt on, i laughed and helped him get dressed

"can i come to work with you today mama?" he asked smiling at me Collin loved coming to the diner , why i don't know, working always got better when he was there but he can also be a bit of a distraction

"as long as you're not as rowdy as you were last time, deal?" last time he came to work with me ruby decided to tell me how to raise my child and gave him a load of sugar making my job way more difficult

"deal" he said running out the front door to the car. when we got there everything was normal Madge- my best friend since 3rd grade- came in to see Collin Tyler and Taylor riller came in and sat with me on my break everything was normal except for one young man who sat at the back of the diner he had never been here before as far as i'd seen. After a solid hour he was still there no one was brave enough to speak to him he wore a long black scarf and had mid length brown hair and something about him was just so... interesting i walked up to the booth he was sitting at

"may i help you sir" i asked forcing a smile on my face he looked up at me his eyes were a deep sky blue my mind went blank when he smiled at me. 

"i just have a question for you" my heart raced as he picked up his notebook was he a health inspector? I don't think it would actually matter if he was we always passed inspections.

"is that your son over there?" he pointed towards the counter where collin was spinning in one of the stools, ruby must have seen him and decided to give me a hard time again i put my hand in my face

"yeah ruby must've gotten to him i'm gonna go get him be right back" I started walking towards my dizzy looking son when he grabbed my arm i turned around

"don't let ruby get to you she's crazy and just loves to ruin peoples lives" i looked at him smiling this time it wasn't forced finally someone who agrees with me on ruby i couldn't do much about her though she's my boss i'm kinda stuck with her i sat down and talked to him when we finished our conversation it was time for me to get home
"i should probably get home it's getting late" i stood up and walked out of the booth he wasn't far behind me. i said goodbye to everyone and walked out.
