The night was quite, unnervingly so. Not one animal dared to disturb the horrible quiet that stretched for miles. Then suddenly the galloping of a horse could be heard. While the noise may have been welcomed in a normal situation, it did little to help the strange and creepy atmosphere of the dark forest. The rider of the horse appeared to be a young girl, not older than 16 but no younger than 14, she was wearing a gray cloak that was billowing in the wind. The sound of a number of horses coming up from behind reached her ears and she encouraged her mare to go faster.

In an attempt to lose her followers, the girl took several sharp turns-left, right, right, left-and she heard the sounds of her followers get farther and farther away. However, she did not rest, but instead got off her horse and grabbed onto the rope that served as the reins, and began to walk farther into the forest. She knew the way well, after all she would often travel the forest during the day and sometimes at night, but that meant little in her current situation. It was only a matter of time before they figured out they went the wrong way. Knowing the way was fine during the day and if you weren't in a rush, but at night the forest became a maze, take the wrong turn and all you have to do is trace your steps as opposed to during the day, where everything looks virtually the same. She walked carefully on the hidden trail, highly aware of the numerous traps that lined the way to where she wanted-no needed to go.

Eventually she came to the place that she would use as her refuge from those who were in her pursuit, it was where a river from the mountains stopped, a waterfall with fifty-foot drop into a crystal clear lake at the foot of the cliff. As few as there were people who knew their way in the forest, there was even fewer who knew about the lake, and what hid behind the waterfall.

The girl gently lead her mare into the shallows of the lake, where a stone path had been buried beneath the sand of the lake. The closer she came to the cliff the more on edge she became, while her pursuers were foreign to the area, if they somehow found the lake, then they would find her, and that is something that she just can't have. When she reached the edge of the waterfall, the girl let the mare go inside before her, and once her horse was safely inside the cave she ducked behind the waterfall herself. Not a moment too soon either, for as soon as she was safely behind the waterfall, one of her pursuers came out of a patch of trees, still on the back of his horse, and when he only saw the lake and the waterfall, he started to mutter curses under his breath. Admitting the fact that he and his comrades had lost the trail of the girl, he went back into the forest.

The waterfall had protected the girl and her loyal mare from the danger of their pursuers, and it would continue to keep them safe, for as long as there were the items in the world, there would be people who would want protection from them.
