It was pitch black. The kind of dark where you can't see your hand infront of your face. I lay on my back staring into the dark, trying to keep my imagination contained. Every creak was a footstep, every sound was something coming to get me, kill me, eat me. I am not scared of the dark, but there was something about that night that freaked the bejesus out of me. I kept hearing noises and my mind wouldn't stop whirring. Around 12ish, I think, I gave up and switched on my lamp and picked up my book. Even the magical world of Hogwarts couldn't distract me and I kept seeing movements out of the corners of my eye and was starting to get worried. 'Nope,' I said out loud "Nobody there. It's just shadows"

"Are you sure?" a deep gravely voice asked. I sat up sharply "Who's there?" Silence. "Hello?" Silence again. I lay back down and closed my eyes. It's just your mind playing tricks, get a hold of yourself, I thought. I rolled over, towards the window. My bedroom faces into the alleyway next to our house, and often the neighbours lights are on, but not tonight. My sister got a better deal, I reckon. Her window looks right over the back garden and to the park beyond. And she doesn't hear the neighbors arguing at two thirty in the morning. Creeaak....... Once again I sat up looking towards the door. It had not moved. This time I didn't lie back down, I did not move. Because something was there, something was watching me. Slowly, I slid out of bed and tiptoed to the lightswitch. Just before my hand flipped the switch, my legs were yanked out from under me. I screamed, but it was muffled, something was covering my mouth. By now I was freaking out. My heart was trying to beat it's way out of my chest and I was crying, and not like the movie crying, with a delicate tear rolling down one cheek, like the full blown tears streaming down my and a screwed up face and a snotty nose and those weird hiccuping breaths. I tried to scream again and still, no sound. I heard the sound of footsteps. Then everything went black.
