A Monster's Mate (1)

Amber rolled her eyes, as the old lady reminded her for what seemed like the tenth time, the dangers of the woods. "I've got it, Prudence. Can I go now?" She asked, impatiently tapping her foot against the ground. "Yes, do be careful-"

"I'll be careful! I will! I promise." Amber rushed through the door of the old wooden cottege, grabbing her cardigan on the way out. She stripped off her clothes folding them in her cardigan. She held onto the clothes tightly, and slowly started to tranform.

The crack of her bones echoed through the forrest, sending birds flying. She looked down at her furry, blonde paws. Looking behind her, Prudence was watching carefully. "Go my dear. But never, ever past the forest. When the trees stop, so do you."

Without a second glance, Amber ran forward, her clothes in her mouth. She ran a beeline until the edge of the forest, stopping a few metres from the edge. She transformed quietly, easily returning to her normal body. She quickly put on her skinny, denim jeans, white tee and black cardigan, pulling her hair into a ponytail.

Heaving in a rugged breath, she walked forward, meeting the edge of the forest. "New record," she whispered to herself. "Never made it this far."

Taking another step forward, she remembered the stories Prudence told when she was younger. Stories about monsters and villians beyond the forest.

Another step...

Looking up, she gasped in surprise. She was out of the forest, on plain fields. "Oh Prudence will kill me!" Amber laughed to herself, smiling softly.

"Hey you! What the hell are you doing on our territory?" Someone yelled from her right side. She whipped her head to meet a good looking man, with fiery orange eyes. "Territory?"

"Come with me." He hissed, walking forward. He grabbed her arm roughly, pulling her from her trance. "Don't touch me! Get off. Help! Help! Prudence!" Amber desperately cried, ripping her arm out of his grip. "Shut up, you stupid girl. You're on our territory. Every wolf knows that is punishable by death."

"Death?" Amber screamed, horrified. "Oh my goddess! I'll get off your territory. I'm sorry, please. I won't tell anyone!"

"Shut up! I'm taking you to see the alpha." He grabbed her elbow and walked forward. Amber pushed his hand away and ran the opposite way. "Please! Stop! At least let me walk by myself." Amber wailed, looking behind her quickly.

Her long blonde ponytail whipped onto her face, flicking into her eyes. "Argh!" She gasped, falling over her own feet. "Pathetic." The man muttered, roughly pulling her back to her feet. "Don't touch me." Amber whispered, pulling her arm out of his grasp.

They walked silently, Amber averting her eyes from the man next to her. Oh how Prudence will be mad.

The man stopped walking, as if he was having a conversation with himself inside his head. She looked up at the villiage in front of her, it looked like a town from the medieval times. Stalls with fruits and vegetables, children giggling and chasing each other whilst their mothers chatted happily.

"Follow me." The man grabbed her wrist, pulling him behind her. "Why does this place look like the medieval times?" Amber asked, pulling the man to a stop. "Things never changed here. The Alpha and his ancestors decided it was better this way. Kept things simple."

"Oh, well, what about phones and television?"

"We have them, in our houses."

Amber watched as a little girl came running over to the man, who had suddenly let go of her wrist. "Daddy! Daddy look! Look what I found." The little girl opened her small hands to a small butterfly delicately fluttering its wings.
