Few months later...

"Are you all packed?" My best friend Christina shouted from the front porch. I looked at my jammed pack 67 mustang. Nothing else was going to fit. "Yeah I believe so." I motioned to all the boxes packed to the ceiling. She walked up and embraced me in a bear hug.

After the accident, I woke up to being restrained to my hospital bed. I looked around the room and I spotted a nurse at the end of the bed. I made a grumble noise when I tried to speak. She stopped whatever she was writing and turned her attention to me.

"Oh! Your awake! I must give the doctor a call." Without another word she hurried out of the room. I looked around at the walls and my eyes fell upon the flowers. I wanted to touch them, but felt the harsh fabric of the restraints on my skin. I looked at them confused to why I would need to be held down.

What seemed forever another nurse and the doctor came gliding in. Neither one looking at my face and just proceeded to check my vitals. He mumbled something to the nurse with a nod and she responded in a harsh whisper

"There is no other option!" She shot him lasers with her eyes. The doctor seemed unfazed and went about his business approaching me. The nurse turned on her heels and stormed out the room. "Ms. Randall, I'm Dr. Floyd." He began unstrapping the bands across my body.

Once removed I tried stretching my limbs trying to get the feeling back. "What day is it?" I rasped out. I searched his face wondering if this was a dream. "You have been here for two days. You had a concussion and banged up pretty badly." He slowly said the last part. None on it explained why I was out for two days. I took a deep breath for what was coming.

He sighed, " We tried everything we could. There was never a response, her neck had snapped." His brown eyes were full of emotion.

I choked back a sob. I felt like a rubber band snapped in my mind as the realization hit. I was alone. I had no other family that I knew of. My mom said she didn't know any of my dads side and my mom was a only child. Interrupting my thoughts of sorrow, the doctor cleared his throat.

"You were in quiet a bit of shock, we had to keep you down, so you didn't make your injuries worse." I didn't know shock could make a person so out of it, they needed to tied down. I notice a trickle of sweat run down the side of Dr. Floyd's face. "Is there anyone you can call to come pick you up? A Aunt or Grandparents...?" He saw the emotion that crossed my face as he went on. There was only one person I could think to call.

Thomas Harvey. Well he was more like Uncle Tom to me, but it had been years since I had seen him, let alone spoken to. My mom and him used to be college sweet heart. I was told that Uncle Tom introduced my mom to my father. Which later resulted in my mom and Uncle Tom to break up. Some how they had managed to stay close friends. As I grew up I never quiet understood how that was possible. No one I knew still stayed the best of friends after a break up. Of course I couldn't really relate, with my on and off again relationship with Cody Bennett.

I gave the doctor the number and he didn't waste anytime with calling. He reached over to the nightstand and started punching the numbers on the phone. He turned his back to me and started speaking in harsh whispers.

The last time I saw my Uncle Tom was when I when I was 12, which was right before we moved here. I got a couple of post cards and letters, but that was the just of it. I couldn't help, but wonder if he would even take me in.

"Yes she is right here. Would you like to speak with her?" The doctor turned towards me with raised eye brows. He then handed me the phone and excused himself for a some coffee.

"Cage?" Uncle Tom always called me that since I was a little girl. I couldn't stop the tears that were coming on their own free will. He proceeded to tell me everything was going to be ok and that he was coming for, to not worry about anything.

"Uncle Tom, I have only a month left of school, just let me stay to finish. Once it is I will drive up there." I said slowly, trying to sort everything out. I knew my mom would of told me to pick myself up and put my big girl panties on. So that was what I was going to do. Before he could protest to it, I told him that Christina's would let me stay with them till then. He still didn't like the idea. Well mostly just the driving part.

It would take over a day and half to drive to Yachats, Oregon. After a simple please, the conversation end with him coming down for a week to make sure I had everything I needed.

"You know its say in 2000 census was only 617. Are. You. Serious. Cadence?! You are moving to a one horse town!" Christina waved the paper in my face. I couldn't help, but laugh at her. She could be such a nerd sometimes. I twirled my keys, "It can't be that bad Kina. Plus, the scenery is spectacular!" She looked at me like I had lost my mind.

"Oh speaking of one horse. How did it go with Cody?" Her face lit up a bit and I tried not to notice the hopeful gleam in her eye. Christina has always had a crush on him. It was brought to my attention that they 'dated' in like 5th grade.

A couple of days ago I came to the decision that it was best if we went our separate ways. And that's exactly how I put it to him. Of course I was absolutely set on that, but Cody had other ideas. After forcefully kissing me and roaming his hands up and down my body, he went on about a dream. A dream that we would stay together and never see each other till, well pretty much till college. Too many things can change in that time period. Hell I had changed in a matter of 6 weeks.

I gave him one last parting peck on the cheek and wished the best, while he stood frozen in place. I wanted a clean slate and I didn't want something like that to hold me to this place. I looked back one more time as I drove away and he still stood in the same spot with his head hung low.

"It went fine Kina. Clean break and no hard feelings." She sighed sadly and hugged me again. "I'm surely going to miss you Cade. I want you to call me everyday and don't leave out any details. You hear me? None."

I waved as I pulled away and swiped at a lone tear. The day had finally come and I was ready for what laid ahead of me. Which was open spaces and highways.
