I woke up in the middle of the night, not able to sleep from all the nightmares that I had.
"Carl? You awake?" I asked quietly. He didn't answer. "Can't sleep?" He finally asked. "No. Another nightmare."
"C'mon up here." He said. I got up and climbed up the ladder to his bunk. He lifted the covers for me to lie down next to him. I reluctantly laid next to him. "Tell me about it." He said, rolling to his side to face me, resting his head against his arm which was propped up on the bed by his elbow.
"Just the same one. About my mother." I said. He sighed. "Well why don't you just chill up here with me tonight alright?" He asked. I nodded. He kissed my forehead, like he did with everybody, and rolled over, facing the wall. I did the same, just the opposite way.
*********
Next morning the position of me and Carl was awkward. I was facing the door to the cell and Carls arm was wrapped around my stomach pulled close to him. I slowly removed his arm and he quickly reacted, pulling his arm back down and pulling closer. I tried it again and removed his arm. He jumped up and hit his head on the ceiling. "Ow damn it." He said, rubbing his head. "Sorry I tried not to wake you." I said. "It's ok. Am I bleeding?" He asked. "Here let me check." I said. He put his hand down.
I searched through his long brown hair, looking for blood. His head was facing the mattress and was very still and I ruffled through his hair. "Nope no blood." I said as his looked back at me. "Thanks." He said, looking into my eyes. We stayed like that for awhile until I finally got up and got down from the bed. "Oh boy I am hungry is breakfast ready? I smell breakfast." I said quickly, stumbling out of the cell, leaving him alone.
*Carls POV*
I watched her stumble out of the cell. I felt my stomach grumble of hunger. I removed the blanket that was wrapped around my waist down and slid off the top bunk. I put on a shirt and walked out of my cell.
I entered the kitchen area where everyone except Daryl was eating fruit loops. Daryl was still sleeping. "Morning carl." Said Beth. I smiled. "Mornin" I said. She poured me some cereal and handed it to me as I sat down next to my dad, across from Mindy. She looked at me, then back down at the table. She had an upset expression on her face.
"Me, Daryl, Michonne, Tyreese and Mindy are all going on a run. Need more supplies, food, and formula if you wanna come?" Asked my dad, pushing his bowl out farther from him. I nod. "Sure. When?" I asked, chewing my cereal. "After everybody's done eating." He said.
I got up, pushing my bowl to the side and walking to my cell. "I'm gonna get ready first." I said.
I closed the curtains that Daryl installed on every cell door, and got dressed into my shirt, sweatshirt, and jeans. I put on my jacket, knowing it's still a little chilly from the winter ending. I grabbed my hat and threw it on my head, then putting some guns and other useful weapons in my bag.
I threw the bag over my shoulder and walked out of the cell. Mindy was wearing her blue shirt, grey sweatshirt and her black jeans. Her hair was pulled up into a pony tail and her sleeves were pulled up on her sweatshirt. She looked at me and smiled than walking outside. I smiled to myself and fallowed her.
Soon we were outside, alone, while the other got ready for the trip. She was standing by the pickup truck, expecting to be drivin by Daryl. Her and Daryl were very close, like he was her daughter.
*Mindy's POV*
"You seem upset. Why?" Carl asked me. I shrug. "I'm not upset." I replied. He wrapped his arm around me and looked up at the sky. White puffy clouds were everywhere. The sun was beating down, the snow was still melting and the birds were chirping in the trees. "It's a beautiful day out isn't it?" He smiled, still looking up. I looked over at the fence where walkers were pushing on the fence.
I sighed. "It would be." I said. He looked at me. "I knew something was wrong." He said. "Now tell me."
"Haven't you ever thought about the past. When you went to school and hung out with your friends." I said. He nodded. "I didn't have much friends I mean you were really my only friend. Everyone else laughed at me and picked on me cause I got good grades in school." He said. "So no I really don't think about it."
"Well haven't you ever thought about your future? You can't have your...prom, your wedding. You can't have kids of your own." I said. "I try not to think about it. That's even IF we have a future. You never know when we could just, die." He said. "Thanks for bringing the mood down even more." I said sarcastically. He chuckled. "It's what I do." He said, laying his hands on his hips like he's some sort of super hero. I laughed and so did he.
Daryl and Rick walked out the doors, with there weapons, fallowed by Michonne and Tyreese. Daryl climbed into the pickup truck and so did Carl and I. Rick, Michonne and Tyreese climbed into the Chevy impala. "You buckled?" Asked Daryl, starting the engine. "Yup." Carl and I said in unison. Daryl put the car in drive and Glenn opened up the gates as we sped out.
