We all sat together at breakfast; I had to use my telepathy to keep our conversation secret; we couldn't take any chances. Jake and Mark agreed to the plan and we waited for the right moment.
They took Jake and Mark back to there cell first, then Caesar and Myself. Everything was going to plan.
It was just the guard and us.
We jumped him. Dragging him to our cell and locking it; running off to the meeting point.
We ran up hundreds of stairs until finally we reached the roof. Where the others were waiting. Jake and I unfolded our wings and took off but we didn't expect what happened next.
Somewhere from the ground bellow some one started firing bullets at us; forcing us to find cover.
I could smell the blood before anyone saw it. But who was hurt? That's when he collapsed.
"Jake what's wrong?" I said as I started to panic.
I touched his chest and felt something wet and sticky seeping through his shirt.
Caesar and Mark were suddenly there with us. Caesar was next to me; holding me; Assessing Jakes wounds.
I felt him shake his head as a tear rolled down my face. I couldn't loose him. Not like this. Not when freedom is so close.
"Come on Caesar do something. Heal him please." I begged him, As more tears rolled down my face.
"I'm sorry Alice. I can't. He's lost too much blood." At this tears started falling like a stream down my face. Jake was going to die and we couldn't do a thing.
Jake spoke softly, "I'll be fine. But you have to go. You have to get out of here before it's too late."
I shook my head refusing to move. "No. I'm not leaving you here."
Jake must have given Caesar some sort of signal, because suddenly he was dragging me away. He dragged me away from Jakes broken body. He dragged me all the way into the woods. Trying to calm me down. But it didn't work. Nothing could. I was a mess of emotions.
I heard a final shot before I broke into a loud and pain-filled scream. I wish I couldn't feel anything. I wish the pain would just go away. I just wanted to feel numb.
Eventually I blacked out from all the crying. But it wasn't dreamless. I could see everything that happened. I saw everything through someone else's eyes. I saw us taking off. I saw the man who was firing at us. The man who killed Jake. The man that caused all my pain. Cole Winters.
