It was a dare. Wade had gone into the abandon sewers on a dare. It might've been the stupidest mistake of his life, but he somehow met four other people in the sewer, which was dimly lit by the people's cell phones around them.

There was Jeff, who had gelled blonde hair and confident blue eyes. He wore a white sleeveless shirt and dark gray sweatpants, along with some blue sneakers. There was Andrea with long red hair that hung below her shoulders and glittering green eyes. She wore a light blue T-shirt and denim shorts. Linnie was a small girl with dark brown hair that was tied into a braid and brown eyes framed by thick glasses. She wore a green striped shirt and boots disappearing under baggy black pants. Jesse was the one Wade noticed last since he tried to hide in the shadows. He had dark skin and short, curly black hair. He had wide brown eyes and wore a red hoodie with jeans. Wade himself was dressed how he usually would, with a red baseball cap covering his curly dirty blond hair and sporting a gray hoodie and jeans.

When he first met the group Andrea was disgusted by the sewer and stayed close to slightly less disgusted Jeff. Jesse kept to the wall with his hood up, and Linnie didn't seem to mind anything.
Andrea claimed that she had followed her boyfriend into the sewers, and he had left her abandoned and lost. Jeff had heard her yelling as he was taking a walk and went in to help her but got lost himself. Linnie had come here a few times before to read a book in peace, but this time couldn't find her way out. Jesse was hiding from bullies when he tripped and got chased further in.

Linnie was looking around for a source of light and Jeff was trying to calm down Andrea. Wade decide to try to talk to Jesse and let Jeff and Linnie be. Jesse was very timid and tended to be careful of what he says, but had a lot of interesting things to say. But he seemed to have a rather scary past, and that seemed to influence most of what he said and didn't say.

Linnie suddenly looked up, with a surprised and slightly fearful look in her eyes. She looked around frantically, then her eyes settled on a tunnel which led to complete darkness.

"Does anyone else hear that?" She said, her voice shaking. Wade and the others listened intently, and Wade noticed a high-pitched wavering sound, which stopped for a moment, and then continued, stopped, and continued. A telephone. Wade nodded, and so did Jesse. Andrea looked confused.

"What is that sound?" She asked. Jeff shook his head.

"It's giving me a headache," he said to no one in particular. Linnie glared at the two.

"It's a telephone. But not the type you'd be used to. It's not mobile," she explained rather condescendingly, "I don't know what it's doing in a tunnel, though."

"Maybe a ringtone?" Jesse suggested shakily.

"Should we check it out?" Wade asked, squinting into the tunnel which the repeating sound echoed from. Linnie nodded and motioned for them to follow her.

They walked down the tunnel and eventually came to see a bright light in the distance as the ringing got louder. The group started running towards the light, happy to see the brightness. Linnie slowed to a walk and started going to one side. Wade was behind her and saw a wooden dresser on the side of the sewer that Linnie was approaching. It had a rotary phone, which was ringing, and a television that had a screen filled with static on it. Jeff left Andrea behind and ran over to the phone to pick it up.

"Hello?" He said, his hands shaking. He glanced over at the television. "Why?" His lips hardened into a thin, pale line, and he begrudgingly walked over to the television and changed the channel, until there was the picture of someone waving with a rotary phone to their ear. They wore a black mask, that had spatters of gold and silver paint across it. They wore a black baggy long sleeved shirt and their hair was covered by a gray beanie. They also wore white gloves, that were stained with gold and silver paint. The screen was still distorting every once in a while, warping the picture, and sometimes clouding the screen with static. The person stopped waving and nodded.

"There we go. Thank you," the person's voice was high-pitched and feminine. She cleared her throat, "You can call me Viper." The sound on the television was tinny and strained, but reasonably clear. Jeff glared at the television.

"What is all this?" He demanded. Viper snickered, sounding condescending and mocking.
"This is a test. A dangerous game for you, entertainment for me," Viper answered darkly. She held up a bucket of popcorn and a cup of soda, "I'm prepared, anyways."

"What do you mean by dangerous?" Linnie inquired, seeming to be more curious than anything.
"Oh, you might be killed. You might be hurt. No matter what you'll be terrified for your lives," Viper nonchalantly looked into the popcorn bucket, "Very few people in this world that you're entering will be friends. There are mostly foes."

"World?! What do you mean?" Andrea snapped.

"So many questions... this is the third one. I won't answer anymore after this," Viper, annoyed, mumbled as she put down the popcorn bucket and soda cup, "You're entering an alternate universe. This world is simply existing to contain the majority of the horrors of the world which have not been set loose in your reality."
