A Les Miserables fanfiction.
Characters:
Grantaire
Enjolras
Setting:
The cafe
Grantaire hums Red and Black as he sets up a romantic candlelight dinner. He sets up two settings across from each other with plates, utensils, and wine glasses. Two candles and a bottle of wine are placed between them.
Enjolras walks in, his arms full with a red flag, a rifle, a pistol, and a map. He throws the flag and rifle down onto the table. With a sweep of his arm he slides one of the table settings to the edge of the table, catching a candle right before it falls as he spreads out the map.
Grantaire catches a wine glass before it hits the floor.
Enjolras sits down and places the pistol and the candle on the corners of the map. He studies it intently.
Grantaire sits across from him, slightly annoyed but still exited. As seconds pass without Enjolras noticing him, he gets disappointed. He reaches for the wine bottle.
Enjolras: Grantaire put the bottle down! (turns around to talk to someone out of frame) Do we have the guns we need?
When Enjolras' back is turned Grantair grabs the bottle and takes a quick drink. He sets it down just as Enjolras turns back around.
Grantaire (leans forward eagerly): Give me brandy on my breath and I'll breath 'em all to death!
Enjolras: The time is near. So near, it's stirring the blood in their veins. And yet beware -
Grantaire starts to pick up the wine bottle again.
Enjolras (through clenched teeth): - don't let the wine go to your brains.
Grantaire slowly sets the bottle back down.
Enjolras goes back to studying the map and muttering to himself.
Grantaire rests his face on his hand and looks dejectedly at the ceiling.
Grantaire (quietly):
On my own
Pretending he's beside me...
Enjolras (without looking up): I'm sitting right across from you.
Grantaire: (sighs)
All alone...
