invisible illnesses

Several nights ago,
I was walking home,
With a friend of mine who
I have known
For over three years.

It was cold and wet,
Rain toppled down above our heads,
The harsh wind choked me.

We were not far from our houses.

She began running,
Scared of getting soaked.
I had a coat you see,
She had nothing but regular clothes.

I tried to go after her,
But my chest wouldn't let me,
As I spluttered against the cold air,
Holding my hood above my head.

She didn't wait for me.
I watched her silhouette
glide away from me,
Taking dainty, easy steps,
against the pavement.

And when she turned back around
it was simply to laugh,
And shout that I really should go to
The gym more often.

The next morning,
I woke up,
Coughing blood.
