Every day was the same thing. I'd get up in the morning, eat breakfast, leave the house and do my daily chores, come back, eat, extra time, and sleep. This was my daily routine for years. But today was different. Usually, I wake up in the morning get ready and eat. But when I get to the living room getting ready to leave for my chores, my mom and dad were calling me in the dining room at the table with a holographic message on. When they called me over, I guessed that the message was for me or for the family. The first guess was right. My mother then rewinds the holographic message and at the beginning of the message was a short green old man named Yoda. I only heard of him once from my grandfather, but I've never seen him before. As my mother plays the message, he said the following, "Hello families. Sorry for the interruption I am. But your help we need. To fight against the Galactic Empire Jedi Order needs more Jedi it needs. So asking you to help us we are. To join us and to be trained as Jedi and much more we need one of family member you have. Reward you will have at the end of the fight. So to beat the Galactic Empire join us, families. Training of family members begins at Yavin 4 ahead the week is. For more of the upcoming Jedi, may the force be with you soon."
After I heard that, I was in total shock. I didn't know what to say or do. I was just in shocked. But after thinking for a while in my head, I realized why my parents called me over to see this message. They both looked at me with a sad look and I knew what they were telling me... I had to be the one to be sent out. I knew that for a fact because my mom is the oldest out of my family with an age at 49, she couldn't go out into the battlefield she's too old. For my dad, he is the only family member who works here for money for my family. But if my dad goes, he would leave his business behind and leave us with no job, no money, which leaves me and my mom behind with nothing. For me, I could go. I was 15 years old and I usually play with long metal poles as lightsabers for fun. I didn't want to go and leave my family behind but, I had to. My family was poor so I had to do it for the big reward they'd give us at the end. While looking at them back, I hugged them tightly with my parents shedding a tear. Then I asked them, "When are we signing up?".
"Tomorrow," my mother replies, "then you will leave the next Primeday to the spaceport to Yavin 4 for your training, so you will only have a week left here. OK?".
"OK," I replied back.
After that, I head to the door to tell my friends the news.
My friends don't really live really far but they do. My best friend lived the closest, Scylan. We've known each other for 10 years when we were both 5 years old. For my other friends, the group, I've met them when I was 10 and so on. After riding in the land-speeder for 15 minutes, I reach Scylan's house. After reaching to his house, I saw Scylan outside his house looking at the sky thinking about something while tearing up a little. He didn't see me since he was at the back of his house so I was able to park my land-speeder in front of the house. As I got off, I saw the entrance of his house and saw his mom weeping in disbelief. What I saw in front of them was also a holographic message like me too. But as I saw it from far away, it had the same text and message to them. In my head, I was surprised that he got the message too, I was happy that Scylan got it so that we were both in, but felt pity for her. I turned around a headed towards the back where Scylan was at behind his house but stopped my movement saying, "You know, don't you?" he asked me.
"Yeah," I replied with. "Your mom seem... well... you know about it."
"Yeah. She doesn't want to lose me too. I feel her pain. But, I wish I don't have to go, but I have to." replied Scylan.
For Scylan's family, he only had his mom who was 45 years old. Like with my mom, she was too old as well so she couldn't go, only Scylan could. But he does a dad, but he left them 10 years ago telling Scylan he'll come back one day. But what Scylan didn't know when he was 5, was that he was that he was captured by the imperial forces while spying on them as a Rebel Spy. They forced him to work for them or death, so he joined them. I think this was the only time they were actually nice for once and were able to let Scylan's dad let him say goodbye to him before he left them. Scylan told me this when his mom told him when he was 13. "Do you think I'll be forced to fight my dad or kill him when I see him?" asked Scylan. I totally agree with him. I would be questioned as well and since he's a spy which was Class 1 he would sneak up someone and steal information so easily that they would be considered a threat. By the time a rebel sees them, they're captured immediately and will never be released.
"Uh... don't know... depending on what task was giving, capturing, assassination, stealing information, infiltrating, well something, but for the time being... I don't know." I nervously replied with. "But who cares about bad things happening to your father, at least you'll be Jedi and fulfilling your dream..."
"Until my dream was crushed after realizing my father has been working as an Imperial Spy for 10 years," Scylan said cutting my sentence off.
He's got a good point but still, I didn't want to make this awkward. I just wanted to tell him that I got in.
"Ok. But still," replying to him nervously, "at least we're doing something good for the galaxy, and if you see your dad, tell him hi in a secret way or something at least we won't get caught."
"Wait. We?" Scylan asked.
"Oh yeah. By the way Scylan," I told him putting my arm on his shoulder, "You're not the only one who got the message too."
