"Stay with me Felicity," Nico said. I felt so cold, so tired. There was a slow rumble vibrating around me.
"Where are we?" I mumbled. All I could remember was falling in the ice and all I could think about was how cold I was.
"In an ambulance," he answered. "You fell through the ice, remember? I pulled you out, but I think you swallowed to much water or something. You were unconscious. When you fell in someone saw and called 911. We are on our way to the hospital now."
"I'm sorry,"I was miserable. We were both runaways from an orphanage. We hated it there. Everyone slept in the same cramped room, we had to clean all day, and we barely ate. It was basically the orphanage from Annie but without the happy ending. There are no happy endings in life, at least not in ours. Then the realization hit me, we were orphans, and we weren't in an orphanage. We were going to be sent back. "Wait, Nico, we can't go! They will send us back! We can't go back!"
"I know, but I'm not going to let you die, Fel! You're my best friend, my only friend! You're not going to die, and besides, we can always escape again. It'll all be ok."
"I know, but.... umm, but," I couldn't think. I was just so tired, so upset. I wanted to get up and run away, but everything started getting fuzzy at the edges, voices became muffled.
From somewhere behind me, someone yelled, "Her heart rate is dropping!" But I didn't have time to here anymore,as I was slowly enveloped in the darkness.
