Ender held his dying wife in his arms as he sobbed, eager for the reinforcements to arrive. She laid in his embrace with a strong, brace face. He could remember how his beloved Sorrel had always been so brace.
He felt her heart stop. The color hadn't yet drained for her face, but her normally pink, blushed cheeks where pale. Pale enough to break his heart. He pulled her close screaming to God to let her stay, just a little while longer. He couldn't be without her. She was the other half to his soul, other half to his heart, other half to his everything. Without her he was only half alive.
He heard the sirens just a minute too late. She was gone. The love of his life, gone so soon. Only three months prior had she finally become his wife. The worst part being she had not only left with herself, she also left with his unborn child who had not been able to experience the joy life would have brought her.
Doctors swarmed in his house loud like a stampede of bull busting in. All this sound he couldn't hear because he was too focus on holding his wife hoping by some miracle her heart could once again beat against his.
The doctors tore her lifeless, cold body from his weak clutches and began operating and trying to bring her back to life right there, but it was too late. She was gone along with his child and he was left alone, not able to breathe. Not like he wanted to breath, wanting more than anything to be laying there with her, unable to feel the pain. He couldn't though, they had both known this day was coming. She made him promise that once she was gone that he would keep living. Living as he would if she was there, but they both knew it would not be that simple. Either way that promise was the only piece of her he had left, so he intended to do his best to keep it.
