My eyes flashed open. Everything was blurred. A ringing filled my ears. I looked around the blurry field, littered with bodies. Some still. Others writhing in a pool of... of blood. I feel a hand grip my shoulder. Like a machine, I grabbed the owner of the hand, flipping whomever it was over. Within nanoseconds I had the person pinned down against the ground with the cold steel barrel of my suppressed sidearm pressed roughly against their temple. I starred at the blurred and bloodied face, "Who are you?" The ringing died down and my vision slowly refocused on a set of blue-grey eyes. "Sir, can you hear me?" I slowly nodded, until the girl's hand came smashing into my cheek. Wait, she just slapped me? "Uh, yeah. I hear you, Lieutenant."

"We gotta get out of here, sir." I nodded, "I agree." I lifted myself up, battle armor and all. Then came crashing back down to the ground; my leg completely on fire, "Gah!" I looked up to the worried face of my faithful second in command, Lieutenant Ash Warner. She was loyal, honest, and flat out beautiful. But there was no time for that, not here. In a different life, in a different place, would I ask her out? The answer would be yes. But, as I said, not here, not now, and quite possibly not ever. "Cap? What is it?" I jabbed my hand towards my right leg. "No time to patch it up. We gotta go."

She quickly grabbed my right arm and slung it over her shoulder, hefting me up next to her and we began our run into the thick, dense forest of the planet, Ba'shar. The full body armor of our unit didn't help at all. But of course, we were used to that already. "Ash, hang on. Look, down there." I pointed to a little creek and we took a quick stop along the bank, which was sunk in, providing us with sufficient cover. "What the heck happened?" I tried to start a conversation. "Wait, Richard, you seriously don't remember the drop? Absolutely nothing from the huge massacre that just took place?" I shook my head. Suddenly the crack of a standard issue Marine rifle was thrust out upon the forest.

I felt my muscles tense up and noticed Ash tensed as well. "Just stay quiet. Don't move." I whispered. I felt like I wasn't just telling her that, it felt as if the statement was directed towards myself. I watched as Ash lifted her head up slowly, as to not attract too much attention to the movement. She quickly pulled her head down and looked at me, "We have an enemy patrol unit scouting out here... We're screwed, Cap, I counted at least sixteen of them." I nod as we both don our helmets, HUDs powering on. "Lets light 'em up, Lieutenant." Then the entire forest erupted in gunfire.

I supported Hawk, looking over to Scorch who was pulling Flare as we trudged through a small clearing surrounded by forest. "Doc, we gotta hurry, Flare is bleeding out... Fast." I nodded in agreement with Scorch. "I know, but we need to get them to a better location I need more cover." We pulled and pulled for quite a while. "There, that stream. Block it off before we pull Flare in there. I don't want his blood traveling downstream and giving away our position."

Scorch nodded and set Flare down as I passed Hawk over to him, allowing me to kneel down and patch up Flare. "Hang on, Flare." I reach around into my pack, grabbing a pack of needles containing painkillers, and a new form of field treatment, something resembling green foam called TFCT [Tactical Field Clotting Treatment, or more commonly referred to as sludge due to it's smell], field dressings, and a pack of blood labeled 'Flare'. "Just hang in there. I'll fix you up, you'll feel good as new I swear." I knew I was lying to him and to myself, but I needed to try to boost his moral. I then quickly inserted and IV hooked up to the blood pack into the crook of his arm then began working on his bloodied midsection, giving him a couple shots of painkillers and then coating the wound in sludge and wrapping it in a tight dressing.

"Doc, the stream is dammed up." I nod and pull Flare along lifting him into my arms and sliding down the muddy bank into the blocked off stream and turned to Scorch, "Go grab the D-PAC." Scorch nodded and climbed up the bank, and moved out of sight. I listened to his COM signal and then an automatic rifle sprang to life and heard Scorch call out, "Shots fired! Shots fired!" The next thing I know Scorch and the D-PAC are in the bank, Scorch firing out into the forest. I curse under my breath and raise my CDM30 SMG, firing into the forest as well.

"Nice job picking this as our defensive position you were right about the cover, Doc." I grin behind the helmet, "Thank you Scorch." Receiving three clicks from my M30 I drop down, "Reloading!" I rammed a new magazine into my M30 and popped back up, firing into the enemy patrol. "Crap, reinforcements. Doc, we need to go." I grimly look over to the unconscious Flare and nod. "Alright, grab him. I'll cover you." He reached down, grabbing Flare and tossing Hawk a collapsible crutch. "Ready, to move Doc." I motion to move back and walk backwards, emptying my mag into the patrol. "Lets go!"

A/N: Let me know how it is, I will probably have another hiatus period so I can write a couple chapters ahead so I don't starve you all of everything. I hope you liked this, give me some feedback in the comments and if you could give me a vote that'd be great! Thanks so much! -Wulfy
