It's time.

The grass is stomped down here. The group was hiding in this area not to long ago.

Hunting just one eventually got to boring. No excitement, no more racing heart, wondering if you were gonna make it another day. Another day to play the most dangerous game.
A group, now that's exciting! The rush of one in front of you, wondering where the other is. Maybe behind you waiting for a chance to take you down.
A chance to win the game.

One of the mutts raises his head up showing that he found something. He waits for my signal.

"What are you waiting for dog?! Go!", I shout.

He races up the trail and veers right leading into the forest. The rest of us behind, only a heart beat away.

All of the dogs jerk to a stop. The pair must be close by. The dogs sit at the bottom of the tree and await my command.

I too lean against the tree and start talking to the men in the branches, waiting to kill me. After all that is all it takes to win the game.

"I paired the two of you up because I had good faith. It is only the second day. I guess everyone can be wrong sometimes."

I wait for some kind of noise. All I hear is whispering, a snap of a tree branch and muted shushing.

I back up off the tree and turn around. "Come on down. This has to end soon. I'll make it quick, promise."

I listen to a young man talk, not being able to see him, but still knowing the exact spot he's in. "W-why should we? You-you'll jussst kill us anyway!"

He sounds afraid. That's good. My favorite part is starring into their scared and helpless eyes right before I slowly kill them.

"I guess you're right," I start shifting my weight,"...but there is a slight chance that I could die and you could win the game."

The young one hesitates, so the older, tougher looking one jumps in," Slight chance? And with that slight chance how are we supposed to are we supposed to defeat you? You get a gun, and a pack a vicious dogs, while we get what? A stick? That doesn't seem far to me. But I don't think you play this "game" to be fair."

He's right. So I tell them how I got on the island and how I killed the last one who played.

"You mean you are here because there's no way of getting off this wretched island? How long has this been going on?", the older one asks too many questions to seem afraid.

"Why? Do you want to be the next one? And I'm only the second one too keep this game going. But like me the man wanted-after he died- this game to keep going as long as it could. Now I ask you this in hopes if, and I mean if you win to keep it going."

"I'm Richard by the way. And this is Paul."

I nod my head.

Richard pauses at my question and Paul looks at him with deers eyes. "Are you seriously thinking about this? Do you really want to continue this "game"? What kind of sick bastered are you?" Richard raises his fist up in anger.

Paul plee's for his life,"Man please don't do this! I gave a wife and two daught-"

Richard punches him off the tree clearly not caring.

When Paul lands bones crack and I almost feel bad for him. Almost.

Richard then climbing down down asks more questions, how long have I been on the island. How long the man before me was on the island. And how did the game come to be?

He distracts me with too many questions and shoves me down on my back.

I struggle to sit up with all of my breath taken out of me.

Still gasping for breath, I hear crying, a gunshot then silence. Pauls dead, It's now just Richard and I.

Still trying to breathe, Richard walks over to me and yanks me up by my shirt.

"Now that you are able to breathe, you have to die. I know you understand why I have to kill you, so any last words?",he says.

"Thank you.",I simply say. He looks confused so I explain,"I am saying thank you because I wanted a challenge. I wanted to be surprised, and I am. That's the only reason the man before me played and I played and now hopefully, you continue to play."

A smile creeps on his lips witch slowly turns into a laugh. "Wow...I'm surprised too! Ha! I'm honored and excited to play the next round."

"Good game?", I laugh.
"Yes, the most dangerous game.",he replies.

I close my eyes.
