I jumped as the lightning struck a tree outside my room; sending a flash that could light up the whole world. Only seconds later came the loudest clap of thunder I have ever heard. My dog ran to me and nudged my hand trying to get me to shield her from the terrifying sounds of the storm outside. I lifted my covers and she clambered inside. I watched my window, barely being able to see through the continuous streaks of water pouring down from the rain, waiting to see if I could see my dad; he went outside earlier before the storm appeared, to make sure all the stables were properly closed, and he hadn't been seen since. I tried to keep my eyes open to look for him but they were too heavy; as my eyes closed and I started to drift asleep. That was when I heard the bang and then the ear-piercing scream that made my whole body shake.

The next thing I remember was waking up to my mum holding a plate of the most beautiful tasting waffles ever.

"Morning mum, what happened last night?" "What do you mean? You went to bed around 9 and fell asleep straight away." "What about the storm and the bang and then the scream?" "What are you talking about there was no storm or anything last night."

That's when I saw it; to be honest I thought I was going crazy but now I know what it means; it was very quick but I know I saw it.

You wouldn't believe me now if I told you what it meant but I'm sure you'll understand later of course after I help explain it very elaborately. OK I'm sure you're dying to know what IT is but seriously be patient this generation is rather lazy and just wants short quick snappy boring nothingness. So I should probably warn you before you read any further this is the long version of what I guess if you were desperate enough could be a short story. So if you don't like long stories then I recommend you never read again.

At first I thought it was just the light or me imagining it but after a while I realized I really did see her eyes flash blood red.

"You know I must have just been dreaming; thanks for breakfast." "No problem sweetheart. Now come on I have to get to work; your babysitter will be here soon now you have to behave today I don't want to get another report like yesterday. Also don't forget to do your homework even if it isn't due." "Babysitter? What about dad where is he?" "Sweetie don't you remember? Your father went missing 5 years ago in a storm and they never discovered the body."

I slumped back in my bed and took a spoonful of waffles as I did there was a very loud bang at the door. My 'mum' went to go get it as she did my dog scrambled out from my covers and licked my hand so I would give her some waffle. My 'mum' came back in with the babysitter, Misty, who I could have sworn eyes flashed blood red; the same as my 'mum's'.

"Hey Alannah how are you?" "Fine thanks; it's Misty, right?" "Yeah Misty. So I have a lot planned for today." "Really like what?"

I say trying to hide my concerns and sound a bit excited. "I don't want to ruin the surprise, now do I? OK let's let your mum get going and we can get started with all the fun."

I listened cautiously as my 'mum' and Misty started whispering. I managed to pull out a few faint words from their conversation, I heard "you need to do it," "why can't you," "do it before I get back" and "where do you want me to leave it?" My 'mum' left and slammed the door behind her. Misty leapt forward at me her hands out ready to grab me. I jumped off my bed and fell onto a book that I had never seen before. I didn't bother to look to into it; I grabbed the book and slipped past Misty running out the door. I hid somewhere she didn't know existed and couldn't get to. I looked at the book and all it had on it was a fancy border. I tried to open it but it was locked, the lock was old and rusty. I moved around a bit and felt something underneath me. I stood up a little and felt underneath me. There was a key which was very old and weird looking. I was trying to see if it would work so I put the key in the lock hole and turned it. I heard a very faint click and then the book popped open. It shone brightly and flicked to a page that read: Demons and the History of Demons. I quickly skimmed through it when I came to a point that said: Signs of Demons. I read through it and everything weird I had been seeing was signs of demons. The next thing I saw which gave me a bit of relief was a title saying: How to Deal With Demons. It was quite complicated but a brief explanation at the moment is to begin with try not to let them kill you or possess you. If a demon kills you in a certain way you can become a demon yourself after serving 10 earth years in Hell. I continued to read and it said that one earth year is equivalent to 100 years in Hell.

I kept reading for a while before I heard Misty banging, and smashing stuff around trying to find me. I could hear her creeping closer to where I was hiding. I thought she was about to find me when, a white light engulfed me and I found myself in what appeared to be a room that you would find in a castle. I sat there for a moment, trying to figure out how I got there, I was about to get up when a door behind me opened and that was when I saw him, at first I didn't recognize him but then I realized who he was.
