"Please understand that I did my best to control myself, but I do believe that he deserved at least a slap in his stupid freaking face."
What was with all the formality? Geez, I was too tense.
I stared at the floor, but opted to closing my eyes instead, like a little child waiting for her mother to scold her. My heart was beating like crazy as I waited for her to speak. A small laugh escaped her as she bent down to hug me. I was shocked at first, since it wasn't the reaction that I was expecting. It made me realize how Chad must have felt when I hugged him instead of beating him up.
"Are you mad?" I asked.
I heard Jane take a deep breath as she released me.
"Why would I be? I mean, c'mon girl, that was awesome!" I felt my eyebrows furrowed, confused with her reaction. Although I was glad that she wasn't mad at me, it still felt weird that she wasn't scolding me. I mean, I broke my promise!
"You really are amazing, Anne!"
"Jane, are you sick?" I touched her forehead, checking if she had a fever.
"No, I'm perfectly fine. You see, I was expecting this to happen. Like, I knew that sooner or later you'd come to me and tell me that you beat the hell out of him. I'm actually surprised that you just slapped him, though. But it shows that you at least tried to keep your promise."
I felt happy that Jane wasn't mad at me but somehow I felt a bit hurt because she was expecting me to break my promise. Was I really that untrustworthy?
"Well, yeah, I tried not to cause a huge commotion at the mall. That's why I only gave him a beautiful slap. Plus, there weren't a lot of people around so, yeah. But I swear, Paul and that chick's expressions after that were worth seeing."
We laughed as I continued my story on how I humiliated Paul in front of his cheap little girlfriend.
"You know what? Sometimes I envy you." Jane told me. "You always do the things that I can't do. You're so impulsive, but in a good way. Sometimes. I'm really glad that you're my bestfriend. Thank you." Then she hugged me.
It felt like a huge weight was off from my shoulders. I realized that I always made things complicated, but as soon as I resolved everything, I'd realize they actually weren't at all. Jane's smile was the best. And there was no need to say it to her: I was also glad that she was my bestfriend.
After our talk, Jane offered to drive me home. When I got home, my parents were waiting for me for dinner, so I rushed into my room to change clothes and join them.

Katy Johnson and Sean Cross, the swim team captains, announced that we'd be having an emergency meeting after class. So, as soon as the bell rang, Jane and I went to the pool together, since we had the same class for the last hour.
We waited for about 15 minutes before all of the team members got there. The captains went straight to discussing the important matters.
"As you guys already know, the Fresno Swimming Competition will be held this coming spring, and this year our school will be participating." Katy started.
"Most of the schools in Fresno will be paticipating, so we'll have to work two times harder. But before that, our team we'll be participating in a swimming competition this April. So you better get ready." Sean continued.
"Yeah, and on that note, we'll start our training on the third week of February." As soon as Katy said it, everyone expressed their dismay: a mixture of 'Boo!' and 'No!'.
