Vampire Prince's Slave

Chapter One

Turning 18 is supposed to be a good thing- it used to be a good thing. Now, almost everyone dreads the day where they're seen as grown up enough to work, because for most of us our work is not good. We are slaves, everyone in my stupid little town doesn't truly own themselves and we can never raise to higher power because there is one group- one breed, that will always be stronger in every way.

I live in a town controlled by vampire. We have a royal family in our town specifically and they're all vampires, our polititians are vampires, as well as basically any powerful person you will ever hear of.

I've never lived in a world that wasn't controlled by monsters. I grew up hearing about some sort of war that happened generations ago when humans discovered that vampires existed and lived among us, but no one took into considering their strength nor how many might exist. They fought against the humans and took control, saying they were tired of pretending they weren't what they were. That's how everything started, and we all became slaves. Of course people tried to fight back, but they're nearly impossible to kill- especially if you're human.

Now, when we turn 18 most people get jobs at businesses and maybe they become house hold servants or some people even become blood bags. But, the 'lucky ones' get to work in the palace with the king and his sons.

I am going to be one of those 'lucky girls' but trust me, I don't feel lucky at all.

There's three princes; Damien, Logan and Lucas. Damien is the oldest, he will take the thrown next. He's also apparently very stubborn with a pretty bad temper and ego to match. He already has a slave, same as Logan. Logan doesn't sound too bad from what I hear, he's quiet. Lucas, the youngest, probably never going to get the thrown unless he takes over another kingdom. That is who I will be working for. Since today is my 18th birthday, I start very soon. Mom and dad are just waiting for my letter, which will probably arrive today.

When a child is born, some families receive letters letting the family know that they have been chosen and their daughter will have the honour of serving a prince on their 18th birthday. We don't know how we're selected, it used to be the decendants of those who rebelled against the Royal family or tried to over throw them, but most of those blood lines have been wiped out by now.

I just woke up and I'm too afraid to go downstairs, I don't want to see the letterthat dooms my life to living with and serving bratty, stuck up snobs who could and probably will kill the instant I piss them off. Prince Lucas had a slave a few years ago, and she died less than a year ago and no one knows how or why. Once we ove into the castle, we don't get to come home- we don't see our family or friends again, whereas if you work for just an ordinary vampire in the town, you do get to do all of those things. Not a lot but you can. I won't be allowed to leave the castle unless I'm with Lucas.

"Camilla, come get breakfast." My mom shouted up the stairs. With a groan, I forced myself out of bed and downstairs. My dad and brother, Cameron, were sat at the table while my mom finished breakfast- a task I'd normally help her with.

"Morning," I greeted them, making myself a tea before sitting down. Just as I did, there was a knock at the door.

No one moved, we just stared at the door with realization.

We get company quite often, even this early in the morning it would be no surprise to have a neighbor or friend come over for breakfast or to just visit. But everyone knows it's my birthday, you don't disturb someone on their 18th birthday because they are too busy learning about their future. You rest on your 18th birthday, nothing else.

My brother recovered first, so he got up and walked over to the door. My curiousity got the best of me and I ran behind him, peeking over his shoulder to see who it was.
