"I wish school would just disappear. Then people like me wont feel so different." I mumbled to myself on the way home. I usually take a path far away from the city, even though we live really close to it. "Why did she pick that asshole? God.. Love makes you blind."
I was talking about my mother. She started dating a bar tender awhile back, and finally introduced him to me. That white haired bastard. He was nice while she was around, but when she left the room, he kept making rude remarks. 'This is my house, excuse you. Now, treat her well, and leave me alone.' I said to him, then left for the rest of the night. So moody. I ended up sleeping on a bus stop bench. It wasn't to comfiest, but I rather be there then home.
Before I left, he said something. Something that I cant get out of my head. 'Well, no wonder you're leaving. You're not proud of your life enough to put your name in it.'
I dont understand it. I try to, but everytime I think about it, it pissed me off more and more. "GH!" I kicked a rock across the road, then took a deep breath. Stressing isn't going to do anything. I just kept walking home.
"Hey there Zaya! Wanna play?" My neighbor's kids yelled at me and waved. I waved back, but just went inside my house. They'll get the hint.
"I'm home, says no one." I put down my backpack and went straight to my room. Mom was probably busy with her job anyways. She teaches grade school. Yeah it was only like four, but she could be doing something. My logic only when I dont want people to talk to me.
I sat on my bed and thought about what the guy said. 'you're not proud of your life enough to put your name in it.' what? What did he mean? That my life didnt deserve me? Its my own life though. Is it an anxiety thing? I clutched my hands together, digging my nails into them.
What was that guy's name anyways? If I dont even know who he is then why should I care what he says?
I heard a tap on my window. "WHAT?" I yelled and jolted my head over. No one was there. "Stupid birds!" I stood up and went back outside my house. The kids were still playing in the mud. "Hey guys! Do you want to go throw rocks into the river?" I asked as I walked up. There were three boys and a girl, who didnt act that much like a girl. She always had short hair like her brothers, and played sports. I guess if you've grown up with three boys you start to do things they do.
"Yeah!" They all shouted and ran to me.
When we got there, (Which was pretty hard considering they are about 6 or 7 and there are four of them. They cant stick to one path.) We threw rocks and mud into a nearby stream. Sadly, I take them here often for my own sake. But they have fun.
The sun started to go down so I grabbed them and pulled them to a convenient store. "You can all get one thing, okay? And please dont make a mess!" I warned them and they nodded. We walked in and they scattered like mice. "Ay, Zaya! How's my favorite girl doing?" The cashier asked. He was middle aged, but a very nice man. "I'm doing well sir-" My phone started to buzz. "Can you watch them? Thanks, I'll be right back!" I waved then ran outside.
"Hello?" "Hi, honey. I'm on my way home! Sorry its taken till seven, I couldn't do my papers any faster, then the printer stopped working and- Ugh. its just a huge mess! Are you at home right now?" My mom is a total worry bug. "No, I just got done taking the neighborhood kids to the pond and now we are at a convenient store. I let them get some food or something." "How sweet of you! Aww my baby is turning so responsible! You probably don't want to hear me gush, so I need to ask you something." "Yeah wh-" I heard a crash coming from the store. "Oh, no." "What?? What's that noise? Honey?!" My mom started freaking out. "I'll have to call you back, bye."
I put my phone back into my pocket and ran into the store. Cans on a shelf were knocked down and scattered everywhere. "What on earth!?" I shouted. The girl and one of the boys ran up to me "Simon and Isaac got into a fight and knocked it all down! We are so sorry Zaya!" The girl shouted. I took a deep breath. They're just kids. "Its fine Lily, dont get worked up. Can you go look for your other brothers? Tell them Zaya is going to tell your parents if they don't come now." I said to Lily. She nodded and ran off. "Now, Jeremy, can you help me clean all this up?" He stared at me for a second, then slowly started rolling cans back to the shelf. "What the heck happened in here?!" The cashier yelled. I thought I asked him to watch? "The kids fought and knocked it down while I was outside, I'm so sorry. We are cleaning it up now." I went back to work until my phone buzzed.
