The next step: Whodunnit?

Chapter 18

Riley's POV:

I wonder why Daniel had been brought to the barn...

"Anyway," James says. "I'm going to the morgue"

"No, I'm going to the morgue" West argues. But I think he's joking about arguing.

I face palm in my mind.

"You can both go to the morgue" I say in a bordered tone.

"Ok," West says. "But I'm going first"

"You go at the same time!" Michelle says.

"Yeah dude" James says.

"Anyway," I say. "I'll go to the crime scene"

"Ok that leaves me with last known" Michelle says.

Suddenly Daniel walks back up to our group.

"Daniel! What was that?" I ask.

"He said I-"

"You what?"


Daniels POV:

I'm probably not supposed to tell them about the snake. I need to be extra careful so probably not the best idea.

"He told me...that I wore the wrong boots!" I lie.

Everybody looks down at my boots. "You're wearing the exact same boots as us..." Riley says.

"Oh um...that's because...he made me switch them." I lie.

"Oh..." Riley says. "Okay. Well where are you investigating?" She asks.

"Um...I guess crime scene" I say.


Eldons POV:

I glance at James's team. Now they have five people!

"Guys," I say to Stephanie and Emily. "They have five people now" I say gesturing towards the other team.

"Ugh" Emily says.

"Attention Guests," Giles says. "If you have chosen your locations please raise your hand for the morgue" he says.

James, West and I raise our hands. Giles leads us to an outdoor morgue.


"She's in a body bag..." James says.

West and I unzip it.


Stephanie's POV:

"The scene of the crime?" Giles says.

Riley, Daniel and I raise our hands. He brings us back to the horse track.


Michelle's POV:

"And the last known whereabouts" Giles says, bouncing the word 'whereabouts'.

Emily and I raise our hands.

He brings us into the barn. I walk around.

I look at the horse chart to see which horse Giselle had.

Giselle- Oleander

Wait I know what that is!

Oleander is a poisonous flower!

I look inside Oleanders stable. (There are no horses in the barn right now). There's a bunch of pink flowers on the wall. I'm guessing that's oleander.


Riley's POV:

We get to the crime scene and I notice there's Giselle's horse, and a wire.

Daniel drags his fingers along the wire trying to find the end.

"Guys" he say. Steph and I walk to him. There's some kind of cage with birds in it. Daniel pulls the stings and the birds fly out.

That's where they came from!

I notice Stephanie looking inside Giselle's horse satchel. She screams.

Daniel and I run over to her.

I look inside the bag and yelp as I see a snake.

Daniel looks at us confused.


Daniels POV:

I remember taking the snake OUT of Giselle's bag...and Giles told me it interfered with the killers plan.

So why is there a snake inside the bag then?!

"What's wrong Daniel?" Riley asks me.

"Nothing" I lie. Hmm...


West's POV:

Well there's nothing really odd about Giselle... just that she's dead.

I look around her legs and notice some...tiny holes in them.

I make sure that James and Eldon don't see as I examine it. I quietly cover up her leg. I'm going to tell James after.

"Find anything?" James asks.

I shake my head. "Hey look!" Eldon points to a sign.

It had a poisonous side and a non-poisonous side.

There were some poisonous flowers; oleander being one of them.

There were also some snakes like a coral king snake.

It has red,black,yellow,black, and so on.

Wait that can't be right.

If the red touches the yellow you're a dead fellow, if the red touches the black you're an okay jack.

So why's it on the poisonous side?


Emily's POV:

I'm walking around the barn when I notice a small glass cup with pink cream in it. There's also a black bucket with pink flowers in it. Hmm...


Michelle's POV:

I notice a box on a small ledge of wood on the wall. I pull the box off the wall. They're finishing nails. Hmm. I notice Emily in a small room inside the barn. I walk in and see her casually walk out.

I notice there's a glass cup with pink cream inside. And there's the oleander in the black bucket.

I think it's oleander.

Stephanie's POV:

Well the snake is about the size of my thumb.

We walk back to the picnic are.

But Riley and Daniel are giggling about something and walking behind me.

Everyone is already there when we get there.

I walk over to Eldon and Emily.


Riley's POV:

Daniel and I walk back to our group.

"So what'd you find?" I ask.

"Actually nothing" James says. "But there was a sign of poisonous and non poisonous things"

"Wait you found nothing?" I ask.

"It's true! Ask west!" James says looking at west.

"Actually no." West says.

James has a shocked look on his face. He actually lied?

"What? Dude! What'd you find?" James asks.

"You should know" I say.

"No I don't! I didn't see anything!" James defends himself.

I ignore him and look at West.

"James didn't see, but there were wholes in her leg" West says.

"Oh! There was a snake in her pouch!" I say.

"Yeah it looked like a snake bite" West says.

"How big was it?" Daniel asks.

"Umm I don't know...this wide," he says making about 8 centimeters long with his fingers.

"But the snakes head was only about as big as my thumb" Daniel says.

"Oh" West says.


Eldons POV:

Stephanie comes back to Em and I.

"What'd you find?" She immediately asks.

"I found-" I say but at the exact same time Emily speaks.

"There was-" is what she said.

"Sorry" Emily blushes.

"Anyway," I say. "There was no sign of anything on her body, but there was a chart that said what is poisonous and non-poisonous followers and snakes"

"Wait snakes?" Steph asks.

"Yeah, why?" I ask.

"There was a snake in her pouch" she says.

"What colours?"

"Red, black, yellow, black. Why?" She says.

My eyes widen. "Then that snake is poisonous!" I say.

"What no" Emily says in sheepish tone. "I specifically remember when we were in J-troupe West told us that if the red touches the black you're an OKAY jack."

"You remember that?" Is all that slips out of my mouth.

"Moving on," Stephanie says. "It must be poisonous because of the sign"


Emily's POV:

I specifically remember that if the red touches the black you're an okay jack.

So that snake can't be poisonous!

But Eldon and Steph won't listen!

"Whatever," I say. "What'd you find Steph?"

"We'll the snake," she says. "There was also a trip wire leading to a cage of birds"

"That must be how the bird were released" I say.

"What'd you find?" She asks me.

"I found..." I trail off an hesitate to tell them. "There was a bucket of pink flowers named 'oleander'" I admit.

"There was also a glass of pink cream that looked like it was made from the flowers" I add.

"Okay," Eldon finally speaks. "Well I know that oleander is a poisonous flower"

"Exactly" I smirk.


Wests POV:

Riley tells us what was at the crime scene and Michelle tells us why was at the last known whereabouts.

"It makes sense but I feel like we're missing something" I say.

"Yo, we have to solve that riddle!" James says. He fist bumps my fist.

"Okay guys," Michelle says. "This is serious. You know that your lives are on the line, right?"

"Yes" James and I say at the same time.

"Okay Guests, this riddle is going to be a bit different." Giles says. He reads us the riddle.

We have to follow each trail.

He said something about sky blue. Or something.

James and I run up the yellow path, Daniel and Riley run up the blue path, an Michelle runs up the white path.

Just as James and I reach the top we see a sign.

'Go back'

Ugh!

We run all the way down the hill and start up the blue trail.

Half way up we meet Riley and Daniel.

"It says go back" Daniel tells us.


Michelle's POV:

Once I get to the top of the trail i see some sort of stand.

Perfect!

I run up to it. There's small jig saw puzzles for each of us.

I take one and start to work on it. It looks like a map of the area.

I try to match things up but they just won't fit! I see Eldon run up.


Eldons POV:

I see Michelle working on something.

"Hey, what's that?" I ask, breathlessly.

"It's...some sort of puzzle" She tells me. I grab one from the rack and sit beside her.

Our legs touch and I think I see a little blush forming on her cheeks.

I smile, then work on my puzzle.

I put the red piece beside the green, then beside the blue.

Hey, this is actually really easy once you get the hang of it!

Michelle still hasn't figured it out.

I fight the urge to help her and stand up to leave. "Good luck" I say running off.

I follow the map. Soon, I arrive at some sort of shed.

"Hello, Eldon" some one startles me.

"Oh it's just you" I laugh to Giles.

"Well, are you going in or not?" Giles ask.

I step up into the door step and head in.

The room is full of SNAKES!

Why did it have to be snakes?

In the middle of the room there's a stool that says 'place murder weapon here'

I panic as I look around the room. I search for a coral king snake. The one that Steph saw in Giselle's bag.

I place the snake on the stool and run out.

As I leave the shed I notice a line has formed outside.


Daniels POV:

James, West, Riley, Michelle and I all came here as soon as we found the map.

James is next in line, followed by Michelle, West, Me, Riley, and Stephanie. Emily isn't here yet...

"Remember to NAIL this or we're SCREWED" I tell James. He nods and heads inside.

When we were all talking we came up with the idea that the finishing nails had something to do with the murder since the snake obviously wasn't poisonous.


James's POV:

Ah, what the hell! The room is filled with snakes!

I try to avoid them and make my way over to the stool.

I know that the snakes don't have anything to do with killing Giselle because they're too much in my face.

I see a loose screw on the ground and place it on the stool. I make my way out of the shed, only to have failed.

When I walk out I see thy everyone is standing in line, even Emily.

"Snakes" I whisper to West.


Stephanie's POV:

Now everyone, including myself, are on our second time through.

We've gotta get this!

I head inside.

I'm aware of the snakes by now.

I spot some wood by the door and quickly place it on the stool.

I walk out and head to the back of the line.

Ugh I feel like we've tried everything!

James is up next.

Another thing: some people are getting mad about me putting raniel and Stepheldon in the story so I've tried to not add as much but guys it's my story so I'm going to add some if I want okay thanks : )
