After two weeks of camping, Jackson and his friends Hudson, Brenda, [xyarah], Elmer, and [skyrunner] decided it was enough and decided to start heading back. After afew hours on the road the car finally hit city limits. Then the radio went silent, and started to transmit a message, "Attention to all local citizens, this is a issued radio message from the united states military as a reminder to the sick, infected, or injured, to proceed to the nearest quartine zone in your region. You will be provided with medication, treatment, and shelter upon arrival. To all uninfected, please avoid contact with loved ones, pets, or anything that may, or can be able to cary, or transmit diesases, or infection. Thank you." The radio went silent for afew seconds, then let out a snall sound of static as the message repeated. "Attention to all local citizens, this is a issued ra-" Hudson quickly turned the volume on the radio off before the message could play again "Do people normally freak out about the common cold like this here?" Hudson asked, jackson replied "No.. people just over reacting like usual." He looked at hudson then looked out the window again, "Probably." Jackson looked back to see Hudson and him were the only ones awake. "Its weird to to hear they want sick people in a big group, but if they do then its probably nothing"
Hudson looked in the rear view mirror at him "weird is an understatement."
Jackson looked at him " You're an understatement.."
About an hour of looking out the window at trees and fields later, the car started to stop. "Whats wrong? Why'd we stop?" Asked Elemer who had woken up only ten minutes ago. " out of gas" replied hud. "Me, brenda, and xyarah can go for the gas station we passed awhile ago, you up for it xya?"
Xyarah looked at him, "Im lazy." Jackson narrowed his eyes at her "wake brenda up and get yo ass movin' " xyarah rolled her eyes and shook brenda till she woke up. "Are we there yet?.." Brenda asked groggily, " we ran out of gas, me and xyarah and you are going to get gas from the gas station" xyarah already had the gascan from the cars trunk "I'll stay here with ol' skyrunner" hudson yelled as they started to walk off.
After ten minutes of walking Jackson looked at his two friends and started to think, 'whats going on with the radio.. what if something happens to them.. this trip was my idea.. i have to make sure they stay safe.' He looked up from the ground and saw the gas station, and it didnt look good. There was a car crashed into a pump.. and the windows were either boarded up or broke. "Is this a normal red neck thing?" Jackson looked at brenda and xyarah, "not a good first impression i guess.."
When they got to the gas station Jackson and Brenda went inside to see what they could find while xyarah filled the gas with what little money they had. Then Jackson and Brenda saw it, a cop with his stomach torn open, a woman with a missing arm, and afew more mutilated bodies. The smell was awful, like the bodies had already started to rot. The smell was so bad, jackson hurried outside before he threw up. Brenda walked forward and stared at the bodies.. "oh my god..." she started to check the cop to see if he might of had a radio or something to call the police with since the trip was a no phone get away.
And then it happened. The dead cop reanimated, grabbed Brenda by the wrist and sank his teeth into her arm, ripping out a chunk of flesh
Brenda screamed and got her arm away from the cop
"What the fuck is wrong with you?!?!" The cop slowly started to get up and walk towards brenda. Without thinking brenda pushed the cop into the table and started to bash his head on the edge of it. Jackson and Xyarah ran back in to see what all the noise was, and they stopped. Xyarah looked at the bodies, then brenda's arm, then at the cop. "W-what happened?" Brenda started to cry "h-he bit me! And he s-started to get up ti get me again so i p-panicked!" Jackson looked at the cop, and thought to himself 'he shouldnt be alive.. he cant be... his guts are in eight different places and hes missing half his skull.. "xyarah start taking brenda back to the car, ill finish with the gas."
Xyarah nodded and started to walk out, but before she could jackson ran to her side and whispered to her, "Dont you dare tell the others about what we saw or what happened, or what brenda did here. Got it?" Xyarah nodded again and walked out with brenda.
Jackson waited five minutes after they left before he did what he was going to do. He took the cops body and flipped it over onto the floor. Then he saw what he was hoping to find. The cop's gun. He looked around the gas station for anything he could take with him, and his friends for the road. While searching he found an old .44 revolver under the cash register with a box of bullets beside it. He then got a bag, and put the guns and the box of bullets in, then covered them with snacks, and bottled drinks. He went outside, finished filling the gascan and started to head back to the car.
He looked back at the gas station and thought to himself.
'I dont know whats going on but I have to keep them safe. We're gonna have to keep eachother safe.'
