"Yes!" I screamed as I gazed into the letter I had received. I just gained admission to Bridgestone University to study music. I loooooove music. It's my passion, my life and it's everything I live for. I raced downstairs to tell my family about the good news. "I don't care," my older sister Trina said. 'Wow honey I'm really proud of you," my mum said. She sounded disappointed. "Is anything wrong mum?" I asked. "No. It's just that I wanted you to rather study at Yale University. I wanted you to be a doctor just like your father," my mum replied. "But mum we have discussed this before. I am not like dad. I don't want to be a doctor. I want to study music," I said. "it's not going to help you. You are good at music but it it's just used to relax and entertain. Music is not a serious profession," my mum said. After I heard this, I screamed as loud as I could and raced upstairs to my room. I locked the door, jumped on my bed and started weeping. "Music is not a serious profession." These words just ringing in my head as I wept. These words made me cry more. The fact that my own mother did not want me to be who I am and make use of what I was born with really hurt me. After I wept for sometime and it seemed like all the water in my eyes had poured out, I prayed to God that my mum would understand what music means to me. After that, I lay on my bed and by the time I realised, I fell asleep. I was woken up by a knock on my room door. I got up lazily and walked to the door to unlock it. When I opened the door, there was a letter on the floor. I picked it up and read it. It was from my mum. In the letter, she said that she understands that I'm angry at her but then she supports my decision to study music even though she does not think its a good idea. She said that she is allowing me to spend one year at Bridgestone and if I am able to prove to her that music is the right profession for me, she will allow me to become a musician. After i finished reading the letter, i thanked God for answering my prayer but then I realised something. After one year if I am not able to prove anything to my mother, I will be forced to study at Yale and become a doctor. I did not know what to do. Should I take this chance. I know the answer seems obvious but what if I am not good at music as I thought. If that happens I will never be able to hold a musical instrument again in my life. And the disappointment will haunt me forever. I had to seek some advice. I picked up my cell phone and calledy my two best friends Lisa and Renée. "Hiya", Lisa said. "Sup," Renée added. "Girls I need some advice," I said and with that, I narrated the whole story to them. "Lindz you are the most talented person I know. I think you should go for it," Lisa said. "Yh," Renée added. So I made up my mind. I was going to study music. I rushed downstairs to tell my mother and she smiled. I knew that she wasn't too happy about it but she could not do anything about it but wait and see whether music is what I was meant to do. After that, I ate supper and went to bed. Tomorrow was gonna be a long day. I had to go, book my bus ticket and my plane ticket.
