"come on loser" he laughs. I smiled, I could listen to his laugh on repeat. He dragged me into the first store he saw. As if on cue, three girls ran up to him asking for pictures. I was used to this. Gray always got greeted with fans when we went somewhere. Ethan was at home being lazy, so it was just Gray and I for today. I wondered around and Grayson came back up to me. "sorry about that, but today is all about you birthday girl" he winked. I laughed. I saw a orange shirt with a small little rose design on the front. Grayson saw it too and he handed it to me. he nodded his head for me to go try it on.
I came out with the shirt on and he smiled brightly. "I like it, do you?' he asked. I nodded gleefully. "its yours" he said. I changed into my original shirt and came back out. he took it up to the cashier and paid for it while I was on my phone. he came up to me and gave me the bag with the shirt in it. "where to next?" he asks as we walk out the doors, back into the mall. "home, I'm not going to let you open anymore money on me" I said. he rolled his eyes. "shut up. its your birthday and I'm buying you things. get over it"
I shrugged my shoulders and he stopped walking, facing me. "whats wrong?" he asks. Grayson knew me too well. I couldn't get anything past him. "I just don't feel like celebrating my birthday this year" I said, looking at the ground. he engulfed me in a hug and said in my ear "we can go visit your mom, if you want" he let go and I looked up at him and nodded. we turned around and walked out the doors.
we found Grayson's truck, listening to the radio and singing along on our way to go visit my mom. once we got there I asked him, "do you remember the way?" he nodded and said "how could i forget?" I laughed as he took my hand and guided me to my moms grave. once we got there we sat down on the grass in front of her and I sighed. Grayson put his arm around me and started talking. "well, its good to see you again Ms. Tom-" "no Grayson, you know she prefers to be called by her first name" I interrupted him. he cleared his throat and restarted. "its good to see you again Delia" he emphasized her name and I smiled slightly.
he continued to talk to her about everything thats happened since he's last visited her. I visit her more often then he does. but I don't talk, because I feel like she already knows whats happened. I would sometimes interrupt him with a laugh or adding on to what he would say.
My aunt knocked on my door, taking me back into reality, even though I'd rather be anywhere but here. She gave me a sad smile. I couldn't make one at all. "I heard you get up like five minutes ago, you have to start getting ready soon. remember, todays the day" she said softly, acting like I was porcelain, saying one wrong thing and I would shatter. but everyone knows I shattered the second I heard the flatline.
