"Thank you." The two words weren't a lot, but they meant a lot when it was heartfelt coming from the brunette girl sitting opposite him.

Noel was still frozen, he wasn't sure how to react, so he nodded. She smiled that enchanting smile before turning back to her bowl of cereal with barely any milk. It wasn't much, but he did forget to go grocery shopping again.

He never really used this apartment, so there was barely any food. He made a mental note to tell his beta to go shopping, fill up all the cupboards to the brim and the fridge with fresh produce. He was pretty sure the milk was nearly expired but the girl didn't complain.

No...she seemed far too grateful that she got some food. He noticed the scratched on the side of her face, as well as a massive bruise that was so dark that he could see it from under her shirt.

Something was off, "So." He said clearing his throat. She looked far too young to be travelling by herself, "What's your name?" He asked.

He decided that the best way to get someone to talk was to be gentle with them, take it one step of a time. He also made a note that he needed to get her warmer clothes, the ones she had on her were drenched and he didn't mind that she was dripping all the lake water onto the floor of his pristine clean kitchen.

"Mary." she spoke between mouthful of cereal.

"Mary." He murmured to himself, the name suited her. He titled his head watching her eat, something was quite fascinating about the way she was eating. It was in a hurry, but it was small bites at the same time. He didn't really see someone eat cereal like that.

Then again Noel never really did see people eat cereal, only humans ate cereal

He cleared his throat standing up, "Well Mary, you are welcome to stay here as long as you need to. We will take care of you and if you need anything, anything at all, there's a list of phone numbers on the fridge." He had to get back to work.

She nodded her green eyes filled with gratitude.

"Alpha." She called as he was about to leave.

Noel paused at the door looking over his shoulder at the young girl, "Thank you, thank you really."

He smiled not sure how to respond, he never really dealt with compliments that well. He could feel his cheeks going red and he tried not to blush. Imagine that, an Alpha blushing.

"It's my duty. Don't worry, we will find who did that to you," and rip his bones apart. That he kept to himself. He closed the door locking it from the outside mind linking his beta to send some guards to watch on the apartment.

There was a benefit to having an apartment with the humans, no other wolves really ventured here. Since this was still his territory he was more than willing to live side by side with the humans. They kept out of the national park and the pack stayed within the park. It was fine...for now.

He realised the time as he got into the elevator and swore, she was going to kill him.

* * *

"You're late."

Noel groaned as he walked into the pack, "Yeah I know Jules."

The woman rushed after him flanking his side,"You know an Alpha can never be late." she said shaking her hair. Noel rolled his eyes, oh really?

" In that case A beta should know not to speak that way to her Alpha." he playfully teased her back.

Jules rolled her eyes tucking her blonde hair behind her ear skipping in front of him making him halt to a stop, "Yeah but you missed a meeting with Alpha Kening and he's not happy. Not at all." She said with a glint in her eyes. Jules that that signature shake of head to say that he was not impressed. Noel was getting immune to that gesture.

Noel groaned, "Reschedule, I have more important things on my mind."

"Oh yeah, like what?" Jules followed him into the office. There was something bothering her Alpha and she wanted to know what it was so she could sort it out. After all it was her job.

"Where is James."

At the mention of James, Jules frowned, "Why tell me what you will tell him."

Noel sat at his desk logging onto his computer casting her a look, "Get me James."

"Why is it cause he's a guy and I'm not. I can do what you want him to do as well Alpha Noel"

Noel groaned, why was it always a competition between these both.

"It is cause you're a girl." A deeper voice teased as James walked into the room, twice her size and build James was much more intimidating than his twin sister. "Alpha you asked for me?"

"No he didn't. James this is my turn!"

"Jules fuck off."

"Both of you shut up and sit down." Noel barked.

The siblings put aside their difference rushing to the table to listen to what their Alpha wanted. Once Noel got both of their attention he turned the computer screen towards them.

"James since you were there I want a full patrol of the area, any wolf that is passing through or a visitor in town will be questioned about their whereabouts. Understood? I also want you to increase patrol till we find the rogue. Do you remember what he looks like?"

"Yes Alpha."

"Good, Jules," he turned to face her as she took out a notepad and pencil making James hide back a smile, "I want you to go get her clothes."

The pencil's tip snapped on the page as she looked up, "What?" her eyes were narrowed and Noel shifted in his seat, perhaps he should have rephrased it.

"You heard him Julie baby, go get her clothes."

Jules shot her brother a scathing look before she stood up slamming her hands on the table, leaning so close that Noel could smell her strawberry chewing gum "Why do I have to take her clothes while he gets the fun drama. I want to interrogate some wolf, tie them upside down till they answer me!"

Noel groaned, not this again, that was totally not what he meant, "She'll freak out if James went and gave her clothes,"

"I don't care send some of the other she-wolves, I am a beta. I do not get people's...clothes."

"Jules do what you're told." James muttered.

"No, I was born three minutes before you, therefore I should be the rightful beta not you fat piece of shit!" Jules threw her broken pencil at James who barely flinched. Noel sunk in his chair as they kept yelling at each other and who got to be Beta. Maybe he should look for a new Beta and get rid of both of them, someone who didn't fight in every circumstance.

Now things were getting physical as Jules grabbed the paperweight on Noel's desk.

"Silence." Noel ordered, before someone's blood was spilled on his aunt's favourite cream rug.

They both paused looking at him, "Do what you're told."
